That’s why still use multiple methods of protection and prevention:
✅ Proper and Consistent Use of Condom
✅ Pre-exposure Prophylaxis against HIV
✅ Regular HIV and STI testing - Know Your Status!
✅ Prompt and regular consult with your health providers.
Note: DoxyPEP not yet have official guidelines from DOH Philippines. Thus, using it MUST be with guidance of a competent physician.
DoxyPEP stands for doxycycline post-exposure prophylaxis, an antibiotic taken after unprotected s*x to help prevent bacterial STIs.
While DoxyPEP is a game-changer for chlamydia and syphilis, its fight against gonorrhea—aka The Clap—isn’t as fierce. Some studies show a moderate reduction in risk, others? Not so much.
In fact, in a recent study published in The Lancet Infectious Disease, researchers found that DoxyPEP remains very effective in preventing chlamydia and syphilis, its effectiveness against gonorrhea has faded over time. And the loss of effectiveness appears to be linked to a rise in strains carrying genes that make gonorrhea resistant to tetracyclines, the class of antibiotics that includes doxycycline.
Here’s the deal: DoxyPEP helps, but it’s not bulletproof—especially when it comes to gonorrhea. That’s why condoms and routine STI testing are still your best defense.
Use protection. Get tested. Get treated.
