The Department of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery proudly celebrates another milestone as our resident physician, Dr. Jan Pauline F. Prieto, earned 3rd Place in the Interesting Case Contest during the Philippine Society of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery Midyear Convention held in Siargao, Surigao del Norte last May 6-9, 2026.
The paper and presentation featured a rare and challenging case of Extramedullary Plasmacytoma, highlighting the importance of vigilance, critical thinking, and multidisciplinary collaboration in the practice of ENT–Head and Neck Surgery. The case underscored how uncommon diseases may present under the guise of everyday symptoms—reminding clinicians to always look beyond the obvious.
This achievement reflects the department’s commitment to academic excellence, research, and mentorship. The presentation was prepared under the guidance of adviser and co-author Dr. Marifee Reyes, with the support of training officer Dr. Al Santiago.
Beyond the recognition itself, this accomplishment represents the kind of training culture we strive to cultivate—one that encourages curiosity, teamwork, compassionate patient care, and the pursuit of meaningful clinical scholarship.
To future ENT specialists looking for a training program that values both clinical excellence and academic growth, we invite you to become part of our journey. Here, residents are challenged to grow, supported by mentors, and empowered to contribute to the evolving field of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery.
