The Renal Care and Transplant Center of Bicol Medical Center, in proud partnership with the Philippine Society of Nephrology – Bicol Chapter, is officially launching a month-long advocacy dedicated to kidney health. Together, we aim to promote disease prevention, early detection, organ donation awareness, and a healthier lifestyle for every Filipino.

Deceased Organ Donation Summit 2026

On May 23, 2026, the Transplantation Society of the Philippines, Inc. (TSP), in partnership with the National Kidney and Transplant Institute–Human Organ Preservation Effort (NKTI-HOPE), successfully convened the 2026 Deceased Organ Donation Summit at Novotel Manila, Quezon City.

Centered on the timely theme, “DOD Summit: A Multisectoral Discussion and Consensus,” the landmark event served as a critical forum for pioneering medical experts, legal authorities, policymakers, and media advocates. The summit was strategically designed to dismantle the clinical, ethical, and systemic bottlenecks that historically limit deceased organ donation within the Philippine healthcare system.

The distinguished lineup of keynote speakers and panelists featured prominent national and international figures, including former Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Dr. Enrique Ona, TSP President Dr. Rose Marie Liquete, Asian Society of Transplantation Secretary General Prof. Curie Ahn, and Thai Red Cross Organ Donation Centre Deputy Director Prof. Supanit Nivatvongs.

Throughout the comprehensive agenda, panelists and delegates discussed and elaborate on the standardize Brain Death Declaration protocols and procedures, navigate the complex legal frameworks surrounding next-of-kin consent, and map out localized regional strategies aimed at fortifying organ procurement networks across emerging healthcare settings nationwide.

High blood pressure - or hypertension - often shows no warning signs, yet it increases the risk for heart disease, stroke, blindness, dementia, and other complications.

A simple blood pressure check can be life-saving.

Getting your blood pressure measured the right way helps ensure accurate results.
Incorrect positions can lead to incorrect readings.

✔ Sit with your back supported
✔ Legs uncrossed and feet flat on the floor
✔ Arm supported with the cuff at heart level
✔ Use correct cuff size
✔ Rest for at least 5 minutes before the reading
✔ Do not talk during or between measurements
✔ Avoid exercise, tea/coffee, and smoking for at least 30 minutes before reading

WORK VISIT of ROTARY CLUB OF NAGA

It was a distinct privilege to host the Rotary Club of Naga at the BMC Transplantation and Organ Procurement Services (TOPS). Our engagement focused on bridging the vital gap between medical institutions, civic organizations, and the community at large. During the visit, we demonstrated the technical complexities of transplantation and the rigorous coordination required to deliver the 'gift of life' to patients across the Bicol Region. A central theme of our dialogue was the urgent need for robust public advocacy to dismantle the barriers surrounding organ donation and to address the current landscape of organ retrieval both nationally and within our region.

Orientation on PHILHEALTH Z-BENEFIT PACKAGE FOR POST-KIDNEY TRANSPLANT SERVICES IN ADULTS

Moving forward after a kidney transplant is a team effort, and today’s orientation for the PhilHealth Z Benefit Package for Post- Kidney Transplant Services in Adults, was about bringing our post KT recipients and those concerns department together for our post-transplant adults. We spent the day breaking down how this package acts as a safety net, ensuring that every patient has the resources to protect their new kidney for the long haul. We furtherly discussed the service they can avail in our institutions, their responsibilities as a recipient, and the process for the availment of the services.
