Behavior is not simply something to stop—it may be a child’s way of telling us:

šŸ’¬ ā€œI’m overwhelmed.ā€
šŸ’¬ ā€œThis is too difficult.ā€
šŸ’¬ ā€œI need help.ā€
šŸ’¬ ā€œI’m tired, hungry or uncomfortable.ā€
šŸ’¬ ā€œI don’t know how to express this yet.ā€

Big feelings can be part of childhood development. What matters is the pattern: how often the behavior occurs, how intense or unsafe it becomes, how long it lasts, how the child recovers and whether it affects everyday life.

Red flags that deserve professional support include:

🚩 Self-injury
🚩 Aggression that could hurt others
🚩 Running away or other safety risks
🚩 Very frequent or prolonged outbursts
🚩 Behavior that significantly interrupts learning, sleep, eating, play or family routines
🚩 A sudden major change or loss of previously learned skills

These signs do not automatically mean a diagnosis. They mean your child and family may benefit from understanding what is happening and learning safer, more effective skills.

If anyone is in immediate danger, seek emergency assistance.

Message TheraPathPH to ask about an assessment and current availability. šŸ’™

AUTISM vs ADHD vs GLOBAL DEVELOPMENTAL DELAY (GDD) vs INTELLECTUAL DISABILITY — what’s the difference? Can a child have more than one diagnosis?

These terms are not interchangeable:

šŸ”µ Autism involves differences in social communication and interaction, together with restricted or repetitive behaviors, interests or routines.

🩷 ADHD involves persistent inattention and/or hyperactivity–impulsivity that affects everyday functioning across settings.

🟢 GDD is used mainly for children under age 5 who have significant delays in two or more developmental areas.

🟔 Intellectual Disability involves limitations in both intellectual functioning and everyday adaptive skills. It is not diagnosed from IQ alone.

Can a child have multiple diagnoses? Yes. Examples may include:

• Autism + ADHD
• Autism + Intellectual Disability
• GDD + Autism
• ADHD + a language, learning or motor condition

One diagnosis does not cancel another—and similar behaviors do not always mean the same condition.

If you have concerns about your child’s communication, attention, learning, play, self-care or daily participation, speak with your pediatrician or developmental pediatrician. A developmental evaluation and therapy assessments can help clarify the appropriate next steps.

Therapy supports functional needs—it does not replace a medical diagnosis.

Communication begins long before a child says their first clear word. 🌈

A look, reach, point, wave, sound, sign, picture—or AAC selection—can carry a meaningful message.

Beyond word count, notice whether your child:

✨ Shares attention with you
✨ Uses gestures to express needs
✨ Understands familiar words
✨ Copies sounds or actions
✨ Takes turns during play
✨ Finds ways to request, protest and share

Red flags are not a diagnosis. However, delayed communication, difficulty understanding language, limited response to sounds, or losing previously learned skills deserve a closer look.

Early support begins with understanding your child—not simply waiting for more words.

šŸ’™ Message TheraPathPH to ask about a speech and language assessment.

Not all children who are not yet speaking are ā€œnot communicating.ā€ šŸ’›

Some children are pre-verbal or early communicators who use gestures, pointing, sounds, facial expressions, eye gaze, signs, pictures, or AAC.

Others may be limited verbal or minimally speaking—using some words, labels, scripts, or short phrases, but not yet communicating consistently through speech.

Speech, language, and communication are connected—but they are not the same:

šŸ’¬ Communication is the broadest area. It includes every way a child shares a message.

šŸ“– Language is how a child understands and uses words, signs, or symbols.

šŸ—£ļø Speech is how spoken sounds and words are produced, including clarity, voice, and fluency.

A child may also need support with receptive language, expressive language, speech sounds, social communication, fluency, voice, or AAC.

Please remember: limited speech does not mean limited intelligence, understanding, or potential. AAC is not giving up on speech—it gives a child a reliable way to communicate now while supporting language development.

Swipe through the photos to learn the age-based and any-age red flags worth discussing.

One missed milestone does not automatically mean a child has a delay. However, if several skills are not emerging, your child has lost words or other communication skills, or your parental instinct tells you something is different—please seek professional guidance.

An evaluation is not a label. It helps identify your child’s strengths, individual needs, and possible next steps. 🌱

šŸ’ ā€œMy child isn’t doing some of these yet… Should I be concerned?ā€

If you found yourself quietly asking this while reading our developmental guide, please know: you are not alone—and asking for help does not mean something is wrong with your child. It means you want to understand them better. šŸ’—

Every child develops differently, but when several expected skills are not yet emerging, certain activities remain consistently difficult, or previously learned skills are lost, early professional guidance can help you understand your child’s strengths and individual needs.

You do not have to wait until the concern becomes bigger before reaching out. An evaluation is not a label—it is a meaningful first step toward giving your child the right support at the right time. 🌱

🌸 DEVPED APPOINTMENTS CAN INVOLVE A LONG WAIT—BUT THE WAITING PERIOD CAN STILL BE MEANINGFUL.

For many families, being told that the next available Developmental Pediatrician appointment is still months away can feel overwhelming. While continuing to wait for the scheduled consultation, families may explore a therapy-specific evaluation to better understand which functional skills may need support.

Parents commonly seek guidance for concerns involving:

šŸ—£ļø Speech, language, and communication
🧩 Sensory processing and daily living skills
🌱 Attention, behavior, and emotional regulation
🧸 Play, interaction, and social participation

At TheraPathPH, families receive:

āœ… Therapy-specific evaluation and recommendations
āœ… Parent guidance and regular feedback
āœ… Progress monitoring and updates
āœ… Greater visibility throughout the therapy journey
āœ… Support based on the child’s individual needs

āš ļø LIMITED EVALUATION AND THERAPY SLOTS

To check the earliest available schedule, tap ā€œSend Messageā€ and provide:

• Child’s age
• Preferred location
• Primary developmental concerns
• Preferred days or schedule

Our team will help identify the appropriate first step and check the earliest available evaluation or therapy slot.

The waiting period does not have to feel like facing the journey alone. A meaningful first step can begin with one message. 🩷

Important: Therapy-specific evaluation and intervention do not replace a Developmental Pediatrician’s consultation, formal diagnosis, or medical advice. Families should keep their scheduled DevPed appointment.

TheraPathPH Therapy Center – Tacloban stands in deep sympathy with the victims, families, students, teachers, and the entire San Jose and Tacloban community affected by this heartbreaking tragedy.

Bullying is never acceptable.
Gun violence is never acceptable.
Violence against children is never acceptable.

No child should ever be made to feel unsafe, unheard, threatened, or alone.
No student should ever fear going to school.
No parent should ever have to worry whether their child will come home safely.

This tragedy is a painful reminder that we must take children’s emotional well-being and school safety seriously. Bullying should never be dismissed as ā€œnormal.ā€ Emotional struggles should never be ignored. Warning signs should never be overlooked. And access to violence should never be taken lightly.

We strongly call for proper, consistent, and thorough security checks and inspections in every school — not to create fear, but to protect children, teachers, and the entire school community.

For the safety of every child, school security must be taken seriously. Bags, belongings, entry points, and school access should be checked and monitored responsibly. Every school must have clear safety protocols, proper inspection procedures, and trained personnel who can help prevent dangerous items from entering the campus.

Schools must remain safe spaces where children can learn, grow, play, and feel protected.

We also call on parents, guardians, teachers, and all trusted adults to talk to our children.

Ask them how they are.
Ask them what they are feeling.
Ask them if they feel safe.
Ask them if someone is hurting them.
Ask them if they are hurting inside.
Ask them if they need help.

Please do an emotional temp check on your children — not only when something is wrong, but regularly. Sometimes children carry pain, fear, anger, shame, or sadness silently. They need adults who will listen, guide, protect, and respond with compassion.

We must teach our children that kindness matters.
We must teach them that asking for help is brave.
We must teach them that bullying is wrong.
We must teach them that violence is never the answer.

As a therapy center serving children and families, we strongly stand for safer schools, stronger support systems, emotional guidance, responsible school security, kindness, and protection for every child.

We have seen and supported children who have experienced bullying, and we know that the scars can be deeper than what many people realize. Bullying can affect a child’s confidence, safety, trust, emotional well-being, and sense of belonging. It is never ā€œjust teasing.ā€ It is never something to ignore. The pain children carry can stay with them long after the incident has passed.

This is why we must listen earlier, act faster, inspect better, protect better, and teach every child that kindness, respect, and asking for help matter.

Our hearts are with San Jose.
Our prayers are with every family affected.
Our stand is firm:

šŸ–¤ No to bullying.
šŸ–¤ No to gun violence.
šŸ–¤ Yes to school safety, thorough security inspection, emotional support, kindness, peace, and protection for every child.

šŸ’™ Happy Father’s Day to all the amazing dads in our TheraPathPH family. šŸ’™

Today, we honor the fathers of our dear clients — the dads who quietly carry so much love, worry, hope, and strength every day.

To the dads who bring their children to therapy, wait patiently outside the room, celebrate every small progress, comfort every difficult moment, and continue believing even on days when the journey feels heavy — we see you.

Your love may not always be loud, but it is deeply felt.
Your presence matters.
Your patience matters.
Your sacrifices matter.

You are your child’s safe place, steady hand, biggest protector, and one of the strongest parts of their journey.

We also extend our heartfelt Father’s Day greeting to the dads within our own TheraPathPH team — our therapists, employees, and staff who continue to serve children and families while also giving their hearts to their own families at home.

A special Father’s Day greeting to Branch Manager Teacher Prince, Sir Vanjo from our Finance Department, and Sir JR, our Founder. Thank you for the strength, leadership, dedication, and love you give — both to your families and to the mission of TheraPathPH.

Fatherhood is not easy. It is full of silent sacrifices, long days, tired nights, and moments where strength is needed even when the heart feels exhausted.

But today, we want every TheraPathPH dad to know this:

You are appreciated.
You are valued.
You are loved.
And the difference you make in a child’s life can never be measured.

Happy Father’s Day from your TheraPathPH family. 🌈✨
Because every step forward matters. šŸ’™
