🦴 WHY IS THE ANGLE IMPORTANT IN SCOLIOSIS?

Did you know? Scoliosis is measured using the Cobb Angle, usually on a spinal X-ray.

πŸ“Œ Why does the angle matter?
βœ… Helps determine the severity of the spinal curve.
βœ… Guides appropriate treatment planning.
βœ… Helps monitor changes over time.
βœ… Supports informed decisions about spine health.

πŸ’š Remember: Every scoliosis case is different. The Cobb Angle is only one part of the assessmentβ€”age, growth, curve pattern, and progression also matter.

Is your spine telling you something? πŸ€”

This is a scoliometer. It measures how much your trunk rotates when you bend forward, and it's one of the fastest ways to screen for scoliosis.

A reading of 7Β° or more is a sign to look closer. The next step is an X-ray to measure your Cobb angle, the standard way to measure the curve of the spine:

πŸ“ Under 10Β°: normal spinal asymmetry
πŸ“ 10°–25Β°: mild scoliosis, usually monitored with exercise and posture work
πŸ“ 25°–40Β°: moderate, may need bracing plus a guided rehab plan
πŸ“ Over 40Β°: severe, needs specialist evaluation

Most scoliosis is painless, especially early on, so screening matters, particularly for growing kids and teens. Catching it early gives you more options.

Book a quick scoliosis screening with us today. It only takes a few minutes. πŸ’š

5 SIGNS YOUR SCOLIOSIS MAY BE PROGRESSING ⚠️

1️⃣ One shoulder or hip looks more uneven.
2️⃣ Your rib hump or back asymmetry becomes more noticeable.
3️⃣ Your clothes start hanging unevenly.
4️⃣ Your posture appears to change over time.
5️⃣ You experience new or worsening back pain.

πŸ’š Remember: These signs alone cannot confirm curve progression. An appropriate clinical assessment and, when indicated, X-rays are needed to measure changes in your Cobb angle.

Early monitoring matters, especially during growth years.

5 WAYS TO SPOT POSSIBLE SCOLIOSIS 🦴

Parents, here are 5 signs to watch for in your child:

1️⃣ Uneven Shoulders – One shoulder appears higher than the other.
2️⃣ Uneven Shoulder Blades – One shoulder blade sticks out more.
3️⃣ Uneven Waistline – One side of the waist looks more curved.
4️⃣ Uneven Hips – One hip appears higher or more prominent.
5️⃣ Rib Hump – One side of the back looks higher when bending forward.

πŸ’š Early detection matters! These signs don’t confirm scoliosis, but they’re a reason to seek a proper assessment from a qualified healthcare professional.

Every scoliosis curve is different. The curve’s location, degree, rotation, growth stage, and symptoms can all affect which exercises are appropriate.

1️⃣ Different curves β€” Not everyone has the same spinal pattern.

2️⃣ Different needs β€” Some patients need posture and movement training, while others may need bracing or further medical evaluation.

3️⃣ Different stages of growth β€” Children and teenagers who are still growing may need different care from adults.

4️⃣ Different symptoms β€” Pain, stiffness, balance, and movement limitations vary from person to person.

5️⃣ Individualized treatment matters β€” Scoliosis-specific exercises, such as the Schroth Method, should be tailored to the patient’s curve and abilities.

Remember: There is no one-size-fits-all exercise for scoliosis. The goal is to understand your individual needs and choose the right approach with a qualified healthcare professional.

Your spine is unique. Your care should be, too. πŸ’š

5 Complaints I Hear From My Scoliosis Patients

1. β€œMy back always feels tight.”
That constant stiffness can make everyday movement uncomfortable.

2. β€œI’m scared my scoliosis will get worse.”
The uncertainty can be just as stressful as the physical symptoms.

3. β€œI don’t feel confident about my posture.”
Changes in body alignment can affect how people see and feel about themselves.

4. β€œSome movements hurt.”
Patients often become afraid to move because they associate movement with pain.

5. β€œI just want to feel normal again.”
Sometimes, what patients really want isn’t a perfect spineβ€”it’s the confidence to live their life.

As a physiotherapist, these are more than complaints. They’re things worth listening to. πŸ’š
