We praise people for being totally self-reliant. In our culture, the person who sacrifices and handles everything without complaining is constantly admired. But there is a strict line between healthy independence and a trauma response. Refusing to accept help from anyone is called hyper-independence. It is an illusion that keeps you safe from disappointment but leaves you completely exhausted.
Let us look at why constantly saying "kaya ko na 'to" is not always a strength, how it silently destroys our mental health, and why we need to allow others to help us.
