The ๐ก๐ฎ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป๐ฎ๐น ๐๐ถ๐ฑ๐ป๐ฒ๐ ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐ง๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ป๐๐ฝ๐น๐ฎ๐ป๐ ๐๐ป๐๐๐ถ๐๐๐๐ฒ (๐ก๐๐ง๐) mourns the passing of ๐๐ฟ. ๐ ๐๐ฟ๐ป๐ฎ ๐. ๐ฅ๐ผ๐๐ฒ๐น, a pioneer in Pediatric Nephrology both within the Institute and throughout the Philippines, who peacefully joined our Creator on Saturday, January 24, 2026.
Dr. Rosel was the ๐ณ๐ผ๐๐ป๐ฑ๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐๐ต๐ฎ๐ถ๐ฟ๐ฝ๐ฒ๐ฟ๐๐ผ๐ป ๐ผ๐ณ ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐ก๐๐ง๐ ๐๐ฒ๐ฝ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐๐บ๐ฒ๐ป๐ ๐ผ๐ณ ๐ฃ๐ฒ๐ฑ๐ถ๐ฎ๐๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฐ ๐ก๐ฒ๐ฝ๐ต๐ฟ๐ผ๐น๐ผ๐ด๐ from 1986 to 2006 and likewise had a fruitful and prominent career at her medical alma mater, the University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center (UERMMMC), where she served as Department Chairperson in the early 1990s and in the 2000s, the National Children's Hospital (NCH), the Philippine Children's Medical Center (PCMC), St. Luke's Medical Center, and Cardinal Santos Medical Center.
Despite advancing her knowledge of Pediatric Nephrology abroad at the Children's Hospital of Michigan, Wayne State University, in Detroit, Michiganโfirst as a Senior Resident and as a Nephrology Fellow for two yearsโshe returned to the Philippines equipped with the advanced learning she gained from her time there and ready to impart her expertise with others.
After establishing the Pediatric Nephrology Division at the NKTI in 1986, she went on to train the Institute's next generation of pediatric nephrologists starting in 1987, most notably mentoring prominent NKTI specialists Dr. Ma. Lorna Lourdes Simangan, Dr. Ofelia De Leon, Dr. Maria Angeles Marbella, Dr. Violeta Valderrama, Dr. Esther Tan-Medina, and Dr. Maria Isabel Vilvar. Until the end of her stint in 2006, she was able to mentor 20 specialists, formidable both in clinical practice and in research, both here and abroad.
She went on to become the National Secretary and Treasurer of the Philippine Pediatric Society (PPS) for 4 years, the National Treasurer of the Philippine Society of Nephrology (PSN) for 12 years, and the Pediatric Nephrology Society of the Philippines (PNSP) for 3 years, and garner such awards as the Civil Service Commission (CSC) Pagasa Award in 1999 for the "Batong Bulilit" School, an in-house, informal classroom for long-term pediatric hospital patients.
Dr. Rosel looked beyond the rigors of healthcare delivery and took a more holistic approach to patient care, addressing the needs of the patient, their family, and the community as a whole.
Her passion and dedication to her calling and its advancement, and the intention and care by which she pursued it, will be fondly remembered by all who knew her, and her legacy passed on by those she trained.
