EARLY CANCER MAY NOT CAUSE PAINโBUT THESE 6 BATHROOM CHANGES CAN BE WARNING SIGNS
Some cancers, particularly colorectal cancer, can develop without obvious pain in the early stages. Changes in bathroom habits shouldnโt automatically be assumed to be cancer, but persistent or unexplained changes deserve medical attention.
6 WARNING SIGNS TO WATCH FOR:
1๏ธโฃ Blood in your stool
Bright-red blood or dark, tarry stool can sometimes signal bleeding in the digestive tract.
2๏ธโฃ A persistent change in bowel habits
New diarrhea, constipation, or alternating between the two that doesnโt go away can be a warning sign.
3๏ธโฃ Narrower-than-usual stools
A persistent change in stool shape can sometimes occur when something is narrowing the bowel.
4๏ธโฃ Feeling like you still need to go
A persistent sensation of incomplete bowel emptying can occur with problems affecting the re**um or colon.
5๏ธโฃ Unexplained abdominal discomfort
Cramping, bloating, or changes in bowel movements that persist should be evaluated.
6๏ธโฃ Unexplained weight loss
Losing weight without trying can be a symptom of several illnesses, including some cancers.
IMPORTANT: These symptoms are much more commonly caused by non-cancerous conditions such as hemorrhoids, infections, dietary changes, or irritable bowel syndrome.
But if a change is new, persistent, worsening, or accompanied by blood or unexplained weight loss, donโt ignore it. A healthcare professional can determine whether testing is needed.
Early detection can make a difference. Colorectal cancer screening is recommended for many adults even when they have no symptoms.
