After the Flood: Know the Signs of Leptospirosis
Floodwater may look harmless, but it can carry bacteria that cause leptospirosis. If you have been exposed to floodwater, watch out for symptoms such as:
🌡️ Fever
🤕 Headache
💪 Muscle pain
🤢 Nausea or vomiting
🥶 Chills
👁️ Red or irritated eyes
Symptoms may appear days after exposure, so don't ignore unusual symptoms following contact with contaminated water.
Exposed to floodwater? What should you do?
✔️ Wash exposed skin thoroughly with clean water and soap.
✔️ Avoid further contact with potentially contaminated floodwater.
✔️ Monitor yourself for symptoms.
✔️ Seek medical attention promptly if symptoms develop.
When it comes to leptospirosis, early recognition and treatment matter.
