ERIG (Equine Rabies Immunoglobulin) 🩹💉
Ang ERIG ay isang gamot na nagbibigay ng ready-made antibodies laban sa rabies virus. Binibigay ito sa mga may dumugong kagat at kalmot ng a*o/pusa atbp.

Bakit importante ang ERIG?

🛡️ Immediate protection – nagbibigay agad ng antibodies laban sa rabies virus.

🩹 Ini-infiltrate sa paligid at loob ng sugat para makatulong na ma-neutralize ang virus sa wound site.

⏳ Proteksyon habang hinihintay ang epekto ng bakuna – dahil kailangan pa ng panahon para makabuo ang katawan ng sariling antibodies.

Tandaan: Kapag Category III ang exposure, mahalagang magpa-assess agad sa Animal Bite Treatment Center para malaman kung kailangan ng ERIG + anti-rabies vaccine.

Kung sa ulo ang kagat ng a*ong gala, itinuturing itong high-risk rabies exposure at huwag nang maghintay ng sintomas pa. Ayon sa DOH guidelines, ang exposure sa head/neck area ay itinuturing na Category III, na nangangailangan ng rabies vaccine + Rabies Immunoglobulin (RIG).

Namatay ang isang apat na taong gulang na lalaki sa General Santos City mahigit isang buwan matapos umano itong makagat ng isang a*ong-gala na pinaniniwalaang may rabies.

Agad siyang dinala sa ospital kung saan nilinis at tinahi ang kaniyang mga sugat. Binigyan din siya ng bakuna laban sa tetanus.

Matapos ibigay ang tetanus shot noong gabi, kinaumagahan ay ibinigay naman sa bata ang unang dose ng bakuna laban sa rabies. Naka-tatlong dose ng anti-rabies shot ang bata pero bago ang ikaapat na dose, nakitaan na umano ng sintomas ng rabies ang bata.

Ayon sa ospital kung saan na-admit ang bata, karaniwang apat na dose ng bakuna ang ibinibigay sa nakagat ng a*o ngunit hindi na umabot sa huling dose ang pasyente. Nagkaroon din siya ng sugat mula sa kagat ng a*o na malapit sa kaniyang ulo.

”Unfortunately, umabot siya ng third dose pero hindi na siya umabot ng fourth dose. We categorize yung mga sugat or kagat ng a*o… sa pasyente, Category 3… masyado nang malapit sa ulo. Meron tayong ibinibigay na immunuglobilin, which is active yung ibinigay na bakuna,” ayon kay Dr. Jeorge P. Royeca City Hospital Chief, Dr. Ryan Oscar Aplicador.

🚨 Red Flags of Suspicious Anti-Rabies Vaccines

1. “Sobrang mura” compared to normal clinic prices
If the vaccine price is far below the usual market price, mag-ingat. Legitimate anti-rabies vaccines are expensive to manufacture, transport, and store properly.

2. No FDA verification / no Lot Release Certificate
Always verify the vaccine through the verification.fda.gov.ph⁠
Check:
Brand name
Batch/Lot number
Lot Release Certificate
If the batch/lot number cannot be found, that is a major warning sign.

3. Damaged or suspicious packaging
Watch out for:
Blurred printing
Wrong spelling
Crooked labels
Tampered seals
Expired or altered expiration dates

4. Vaccine not kept cold properly
Anti-rabies vaccines require proper cold chain storage (usually 2°C–8°C).
Red flags:
Vaccine left on tables for long periods

5. Clinic refuses to show the vial or box

⏳️ It took 4 months before she showed symptoms. But once symptoms started, she passed away within just 5 days.

🦠 Rabies can be very deceptive because the virus may stay hidden in the body for weeks or even months after a bite or scratch. During this time, the person may feel completely normal.

🧠 But once the virus reaches the brain and symptoms begin, the disease becomes almost always fatal.

🤒 Typical early symptoms:

✅️ Headache
✅️ Tingling or pain at the bite area
✅️ Weakness or body pain

🚑 Later symptoms may include:
✅️ Fear of water (hydrophobia)
✅️ Difficulty swallowing

💀 After symptoms appear, death can happen within only a few days.
