๐Ÿšจ PHILIPPINE RED CROSS ACTIVATES EMERGENCY FUND CAMPAIGN FOR COMMUNITIES AFFECTED BY THE MAGNITUDE 7.8 EARTHQUAKE IN MINDANAO ๐Ÿšจ

A powerful magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck west of General Santos City on June 8, triggering tsunami warnings, evacuations, and disruptions across several parts of Mindanao.

Under the directives of the PRC Chairman and CEO Richard J. Gordon, the PRC Chapters have deployed personnel to conduct rapid assessments and provide immediate assistance to affected communities within the minutes of the earthquake. The RC143 volunteers have been mobilized, while ambulances have been dispatched in North Cotabato, South Cotabato, and Gingoog City to respond to emergency medical needs and monitor affected areas. PRC personnel also provided medical assistance to students who experienced hyperventilation following the strong ground shaking.

Health and Welfare Services teams are currently assessing hospitals and healthcare facilities, while chapter responders continue monitoring communities that may be affected by aftershocks, displacement, and possible tsunami impacts. To ensure readiness for further developments, PRC has placed emergency response assets on standby across Regions XI and XII, including six ambulances, three food trucks, four water tankers, two Volunteer Emergency Response Vehicles (VERVs), a rescue boat, a Humvee, and cargo vehicles ready for deployment.

"Our teams are already on the ground conducting assessments, providing emergency medical assistance, and coordinating with local authorities in affected areas. We are calling on the public and our partners to support the Philippine Red Cross Emergency Appeal so we can immediately provide relief, safe water, healthcare, and other critical assistance to communities that may be affected in the coming days," said PRC Secretary General Dr. Gwendolyn Pang.

PRC Chairman and CEO Richard J. Gordon emphasized the importance of swift humanitarian action, "When disasters strike, the speed of humanitarian response can make a significant difference for affected families. We appeal to the public, our donors, and partners to help us sustain these efforts and prepare for the needs that may arise in the coming days."

As assessments continue, the Philippine Red Cross is preparing to expand emergency medical services, relief distributions, safe water provision, psychosocial support, shelter assistance, and recovery interventions for affected communities.

The Philippine Red Cross remains on full alert and stands ready to scale up its response in coordination with local government units, national agencies, and humanitarian partners.

To support the emergency fund campaign, donations may be made through the following channels:

As of 1:20 PM today, June 8, 2026, our ground teams operating at Purok Felomina, Barangay Calumpang, report that the facility was heavily struck by falling structural debris during the violent tremors.

With deep sadness, our emergency responders on the frontlines confirm that two (2) individuals have been extricated dead from the wreckage. Red Cross rescue crews, working alongside local authorities, are currently executing retrieval operations as two (2) more bodies remain missing beneath the collapsed materials.

In strict alignment with the urgent directives of PRC Chairman and CEO Richard J. Gordon, our medical, blood, and rescue assets remain fully mobilized across the city to manage ongoing structural emergencies, supply life-saving blood lines to hospitals, and protect the lives of affected residents.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims. Operations will continue unyielding until everyone is accounted for.

In response to the extreme seismic hazard, local government authorities have officially ordered the suspension of all work and classes across all levels throughout Davao Oriental. This proactive measure ensures public safety while comprehensive structural evaluations of public buildings, schools, and workplaces are conducted by engineering teams.|

On the medical front, our Red Cross teams deployed straight to the Davao Oriental Provincial Medical Center to support hospital staff during mass evacuation and triage protocols. Our frontliners monitored and assisted a massive total of 363 inpatients who were inside the facility when the violent shaking occurred. This included tracking 83 patients who were already marked as May Go Home (MGH) and 7 untagged MGH individuals.

Demonstrating excellent emergency coordination, the PRC safely assisted an estimated 150 patients who had to be evacuated outside to the open fields during the peak of the tremors. As structural clearance was progressively established, our welfare teams systematically guided these vulnerable patients back to their respective medical wards with dignity and care.

Following the strict national directives of PRC Chairman and CEO Richard J. Gordon, our local chapters remain on maximum alert status across the region. We continue to monitor coastal areas for tsunami indicators, check structural damages, and stand ready to distribute emergency assets wherever public health and safety are threatened.

1,600+ Children Protected in Just 5 Days!

The Philippine Red Cross โ€“ Quezon City Chapter continues to strengthen its commitment to safeguarding the health and well-being of every child through its active support to the Measles-Rubella Supplemental Immunization Activity (MR-SIA) 2026.

In just five (5) days, our dedicated team has successfully helped vaccinate more than 1,600 children, bringing life-saving protection against measles and rubella closer to communities across Quezon City. This remarkable achievement was made possible through the tireless efforts of our volunteer nurses and support volunteers who were mobilized across nine barangays: Batasan Hills, Commonwealth, Bagong Silangan, Tatalon, San Bartolome, Gulod, San Agustin, Sta. Monica, and Novaliches Proper.

Driven by the spirit of volunteerism and humanitarian service, our teams continue to reach eligible children, ensuring that no child is left behind in the fight against vaccine-preventable diseases.

This initiative is being conducted in close coordination with the Quezon City Health Department and the respective Health Centers, demonstrating the power of partnership in building healthier and more resilient communities.

Together, we protect. Together, we save lives. Together, we create a future where every child has the opportunity to grow up healthy and strong.

04/06/2026

In just four (4) days of our continued support to the Measles-Rubella Supplemental Immunization Activity (MR-SIA) 2026, the Philippine Red Cross โ€“ Quezon City Chapter has successfully vaccinated more than 1,200 children aged 6 to 59 months across eight of the most populous barangays in Quezon City in close coordination with Quezon City Health Department and Health Centers.

Through the deployment of our Health on Wheels (Kalusugan Bus), we have been able to extend vital immunization services to more eligible children, ensuring greater accessibility to life-saving vaccines. This achievement is made possible through the dedication of our committed nurses, staff, and volunteers who continue to work tirelessly in protecting children from vaccine-preventable diseases.

Tomorrow (June 5), our Health on Wheels (Kalusugan Bus) will be stationed at Happyland, Barangay Commonwealth to continue the Measles-Rubella Supplemental Immunization Activity.

We encourage all parents and guardiansโ€”especially our BakuNANAYsโ€”to bring their children for vaccination and help safeguard their health and future.

The Measles-Rubella vaccine is safe, effective, and provided free of charge.
