🚨Food Safety During Brownouts🚨

TO: ALL FOOD ESTABLISHMENTS/BUSINESS
within the Municipality of Saint Bernard.

Safe Handling of Meat and Frozen Foods‼️

KEEP YOUR FOOD SAFE!
⚠️ During a Brownout:
✅Keep the refrigerator and freezer doors closed.
A closed refrigerator keeps food cold for about 4 hours.
✅A full freezer keeps food frozen for about 48 hours (24 hours if half full).
✅Use an insulated cooler with ice if the outage is expected to last longer.

SAFE TEMPERATURES
✅Keep refrigerated food at 5°C (41°F) or below.
✅Keep frozen food at -18°C (0°F) or below.

MEAT & FROZEN FOOD
✅ Cook meat immediately if it has started to thaw but is still cold.

❌ Throw away:
👉Meat left above 5°C for more than 2 hours.
Meat with a bad odor, slimy texture, or unusual color.
👉Frozen food that has completely thawed and has become warm.

DO NOT
❌ Refreeze meat that has completely thawed and become warm.
❌ Taste food to determine if it is safe.

REMEMBER
