Attention, PSUnians! As heavy rains bring localized floods, our health and safety must remain a top priority. Leptospirosis cases spike during the wet season, and we must stay vigilant to keep our community safe.
Leptospirosis is a severe bacterial infection that spikes during the rainy season due to flooding. When heavy rains fall, floodwaters mix with the urine of infected animals, primarily rats.
Be safe and always ready!

What is Leptospirosis?

📌Bacterial infection caused by Leptospira bacteria
📌Spread through water, soil, or food contaminated by animal urine (commonly rats).
📌Risk increases after floods, heavy rains, or wading in dirty water.

How is it Spread?

📌Contaminated floodwater entering cuts or wounds.
📌Walking barefoot or with open footwear in puddles or canals.
📌Direct contact with infected animals or their urine.
📌Eating/drinking contaminated food or water.

Symptoms to Watch For

📌Fever and chills
📌Severe headache & muscle pain
📌Jaundice (yellow skin & eyes)
📌Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea
📌Red eyes, rash, stomach pain
📌In severe cases: kidney/liver failure, meningitis, breathing problems

Prevention Tips

📌Avoid wading in floodwater whenever possible.
📌Wear boots & protective gear if unavoidable.
📌Control rodents around homes and communities.
📌Keep food & water covered to prevent contamination.
📌Practice good hygiene — wash hands and clean wounds immediately.

📌Seek medical help immediately if symptoms appear after flood exposure.
📌Early treatment can prevent serious complications and save lives.

Magpabakuna laban sa Hepatitis B.
Magpasuri para sa Hepatitis B, lalo na kung ikaw ay buntis bilang bahagi ng antenatal check-up.
Magpagamot at magpatingin nang regular kung ikaw ay may chronic Hepatitis B.

Bumisita sa pinakamalapit na health center para sa pagsusuri, pagbabakuna, at tamang gamutan.
