WASMI PARTICIPATES ON FAMILY PLANNING COMPETENCY-BASED TRAINING LEVEL 2

The Wallace Air Station Medical Infirmary (WASMI) attended the On-site Family Planning Competency-Based Training Level 2 conducted by the Department of Health Region 1 at The Grand Hotel, Barangay Nalsian, Calasiao, Pangasinan, from May 26 to 29, 2026.

The lecture focused on the overview and objectives of the topic, followed by client assessement, counseling, infection control, management of potential problems, and the insertion, removal, and replacement of the Progestin-only Subdermal Implant (PSI), a long-acting reversible contraceptive that provides safe, highly effective, and long-term protection against unintended pregnancy, that were demonstated by the skilled medical specialists.

Participants successfully completed the practicum session, where they applied the knowledge and skills gained during the training through actual demonstrations and guided exercises. This interactive learning experience enhanced their confidence, competence, and readiness to perform their roles effectively in their respective units.

Through this participation, WASMI continues to build its capacity and readiness in line with the licensing standards of the Department of Health. Likewise, WASMI looks forward in providing accurate information, and safely apply family planning procedures that will benefit and support the personnel of Wallace Air Station personnel for resposible parenthood, contributing to better maternal and child health outcomes.

ENHANCING COMMUNITY RESILIENCE | WASMI SUPPORTS FIVE-DAY FIRST AID AND BLS TRAINING PROGRAM

As part of the Air Force Health Service Mobile Training Team, the Executive Officer of Wallace Air Station Medical Infirmary (WASMI), Major Christine Jane D. Cerrera Nurse Corps, Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic and Ms. Vi Frances F. Laynesa Registered Nurse Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic, supported the conduct of the Standard First Aid and Basic Life Support with Automated External Defibrillator Training to the residents of Barangay Sinapangan, San Juan, La Union, from May 25 to 29, 2026. The training was organized by the Office of the Chief Nurse Air Force (OCNAF) and facilitated by the instructors from the various Military Treatment Facilities (MTF) of the Philippine Air Force.

The activity was spearheaded by Colonel Jeanette S. Rivarez Nurse Corps General Staff Corps, Chief Nurse of Air Force General Hospital, together with Major Joffre T. Asuncion, Nurse Corps, Ms. Nancy U. Fadri, Sergeant Mark Jude C. Gutierrez Philippine Air Force of Air Force City Hospital, Clark Air Base, and Elbert Michael L. Santos Civilian Human Resource, Nursing Attendant of Basa Air Base Hospital.

The five-day training course aimed to equip community members with essential lifesaving skills, enhancing their preparedness, resilience, and capability in disaster risk reduction and emergency response, particularly during calamities and other emergencies.

This meaningful initiative was made possible through the support and guidance of the Chief Nurse Air Force, Colonel Darlene D. Flores Nurse Corps Master in National Security Administration and the Chief of Plans and Programs Branch, OCNAF, Major Jonald T. Suede Nurse Corps. The training team also extends its sincere gratitude to the Barangay Captain of Barangay Sinapangan, Honorable Jiovannie Cabanban, for his invaluable support and cooperation. Likewise, appreciation is extended to the 585th Air Base Group headed by its Group Commander, Colonel Jonathan J. Inocando Philippine Air Force General Staff Corps, whose assistance contributed significantly to the successful conduct of the training.

Through continuous collaboration with the OCNAF, partner MTFs, local government units, and community stakeholders, WASMI strives to extend its expertise and resources in delivering meaningful programs that enhance public safety and resilience. By actively engaging in initiatives such as first aid and basic life support training, WASMI reinforces its dedication to strengthening the capability of communities to respond effectively during emergencies, disasters, and other critical situations, ultimately contributing to the well-being and welfare of the Filipino people.

WASMI CONDUCTS HEALTH FORUM TO THE PERSONNEL OF 585TH ABG AND 580TH ACWW

The Wallace Air Station Medical Infirmary (WASMI) successfully conducted a Health Forum for the civilian and military personnel of the 585th Air Base Group and 580th Aircraft Control and Warning Wing, PAF with the theme, “Wellness in Action: Empowering Health, Enhancing Readiness" on May 25, 2026, at the Wallace Air Station Multi-Purpose Hall and via virtual teleconference for Radar Sites personnel.

The activity featured informative discussions from the Subject Matter Experts of WASMI Team covering heat-related illnesses, mental health awareness and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, the Buddy System in the Philippine Air Force, HIV awareness and prevention, and the proper and responsible use of condoms as part of HIV prevention education.

One of the key highlights of the said forum was the discussion on the Buddy System, which underscored the importance of having a trusted companion who can provide emotional support, encouragement, and guidance, especially during challenging times. The session emphasized that no one has to face life's difficulties alone, and that a strong support system plays a vital role in promoting overall health and well-being.

Moreover, a solemn candle-lighting ceremony was also held in remembrance of individuals who have lived with and lost their lives to HIV/AIDS. The ceremony symbolized compassion, solidarity, and the continued commitment to raising awareness, eliminating stigma, and promoting education toward a more informed and supportive community.

Certificates of appreciation were likewise awarded to the speakers in recognition of their valuable contributions and dedication in sharing their knowledge and expertise during the forum.

The awarding ceremony was led by the Group Commander of the 585th ABG, Colonel Jonathan J. Inocando PAF (GSC), who delivered an inspiring message highlighting the importance of health awareness, unity, and collective responsibility in fostering a healthier and mission-ready organization.

Through meaningful discussions and collaborative efforts, the activity successfully reinforced the significance of physical wellness, mental health, and social responsibility among personnel.

WASMI extends its sincere appreciation to all participants and stakeholders for contributing to the success of this meaningful activity.

WASMI PARTICIPATES IN MASS CASUALTY MEDICAL EVACUATION EXERCISE IN ILOCOS NORTE

The Wallace Air Station Medical Infirmary (WASMI) participated in the simulation of Mass Casualty Medical Evacuation conducted in Laoag City and the City of Batac, Ilocos Norte from May 3 to 5, 2026, as part of the PH-US Balikatan Exercise 41-26.

Personnel from WASMI included Lieutenant Colonel Wilfredo S. Abulencia Medica Corps, Major Christine Jane D. Cerrera Nurse Corps, and Sergeant Kherwin A. Montemayor Philippine Air Force, who served as members of the S7 Team together with personnel from Air Force City Hospital and other military treatment facilities.

The activity formed part of the Casualty Care and Evacuation Through Military-Civilian Partnership (Interoperability Training Exercise), which focused on strengthening coordination and interoperability in responding to mass casualty incidents and emergency medical operations.

Sincere appreciation are extended to Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital and Medical Center for hosting this interoperability activity and for their invaluable support in fostering collaboration, professional exchange, and partnership among participating healthcare and military personnel.

Through the conduct of the exercise, participating medical personnel further enhanced their capability, resilience, and mission-readiness in providing lifesaving support during military operations, disasters, and national emergencies in line with the mission of safeguarding the nation and protecting Philippine skies.
