ENHANCING COMMUNITY RESILIENCE | WASMI SUPPORTS FIVE-DAY FIRST AID AND BLS TRAINING PROGRAM
As part of the Air Force Health Service Mobile Training Team, the Executive Officer of Wallace Air Station Medical Infirmary (WASMI), Major Christine Jane D. Cerrera Nurse Corps, Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic and Ms. Vi Frances F. Laynesa Registered Nurse Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic, supported the conduct of the Standard First Aid and Basic Life Support with Automated External Defibrillator Training to the residents of Barangay Sinapangan, San Juan, La Union, from May 25 to 29, 2026. The training was organized by the Office of the Chief Nurse Air Force (OCNAF) and facilitated by the instructors from the various Military Treatment Facilities (MTF) of the Philippine Air Force.
The activity was spearheaded by Colonel Jeanette S. Rivarez Nurse Corps General Staff Corps, Chief Nurse of Air Force General Hospital, together with Major Joffre T. Asuncion, Nurse Corps, Ms. Nancy U. Fadri, Sergeant Mark Jude C. Gutierrez Philippine Air Force of Air Force City Hospital, Clark Air Base, and Elbert Michael L. Santos Civilian Human Resource, Nursing Attendant of Basa Air Base Hospital.
The five-day training course aimed to equip community members with essential lifesaving skills, enhancing their preparedness, resilience, and capability in disaster risk reduction and emergency response, particularly during calamities and other emergencies.
This meaningful initiative was made possible through the support and guidance of the Chief Nurse Air Force, Colonel Darlene D. Flores Nurse Corps Master in National Security Administration and the Chief of Plans and Programs Branch, OCNAF, Major Jonald T. Suede Nurse Corps. The training team also extends its sincere gratitude to the Barangay Captain of Barangay Sinapangan, Honorable Jiovannie Cabanban, for his invaluable support and cooperation. Likewise, appreciation is extended to the 585th Air Base Group headed by its Group Commander, Colonel Jonathan J. Inocando Philippine Air Force General Staff Corps, whose assistance contributed significantly to the successful conduct of the training.
Through continuous collaboration with the OCNAF, partner MTFs, local government units, and community stakeholders, WASMI strives to extend its expertise and resources in delivering meaningful programs that enhance public safety and resilience. By actively engaging in initiatives such as first aid and basic life support training, WASMI reinforces its dedication to strengthening the capability of communities to respond effectively during emergencies, disasters, and other critical situations, ultimately contributing to the well-being and welfare of the Filipino people.
