DECLARING THE BIBLE ILLEGAL
On December 7, 2016, the Office of the Secretary of the Senate of the Philippines received a copy of Senate Bill No. 1271, prepared, and submitted by Senator Riza Hontiveros. The title of the Act reads,
“AN ACT PROHIBITING DISCRIMINATION ON THE BASIS OF SEXUAL ORIENTATION AND GENDER IDENTITY OR EXPRESSION (SOGIE) AND PROVIDING PENALTIES THEREFOR.”
A “title reader” would enjoy the short title of Senate Bill No. 1271—"This Act shall be known and cited as the "Anti- Discrimination Act". If, however, we read further ahead, all the way to section 5, we’d notice, in the “fine prints”, that there is a sinister move to declare the Holy Bible illegal:
“SEC. 5. Discriminatory Practices. - It shall be unlawful for any person, natural or juridical, to:
“a. Promote and encourage stigma on the basis of SOGIE in the media, in educational textbooks, and other medium. Inciting violence and sexual abuse against any person or group on the basis of SOGIE is likewise prohibited;” [Emphasis supplied]
Did you notice what it says, “x x x and other medium,” like the Holy Bible, or other religious books? As a lawyer, I understand that this paragraph punishes preaching about S***m and Gamorrah, and related bible warnings.
I am aware it was struck down in the Seventeenth Congress. However, it was refiled and the spiritual battle continues.
I have always known that Christians will be arrested, persecuted and killed because they belong to the Lord Jesus Christ. But I never expected to see this come in my lifetime. I am not encouraging discrimination against anyone because Christians were called and expected to love their neighbors (and enemies) as they love themselves.
We must, however, be vigilant. We must keep on praying. More than ever, we must be more intimate with the Lord Jesus Christ as we see “the Day” approach. Come Lord Jesus Christ.
PS:
Senator Joel Villanueva (of the Jesus is Lord Church) co-authored this SOGIE Bill. In fairness to him, however, he voted against it.
I now wonder what the Lord Jesus Christ thinks about him.
