The Center of Toxicology and Biomarine Poisoning successfully underwent its Mentoring and Monitoring Visit last May 26–27, 2026, conducted by the Toxicology Referral and Training Center and the Health Facility Development Bureau.

We are honored and grateful to share that the Center was validated as a High Functioning Center with strong technical compliance and a mature system — a reflection of the dedication, competence, and teamwork of everyone behind the service. This recognition is more than just an achievement; it represents the collective passion and commitment of healthcare workers who continuously strive to deliver safe, quality, and compassionate patient care.

Our sincerest gratitude goes to the hospital administration and all supporting departments for their unwavering support, guidance, and efforts in helping improve and strengthen the Center. Every contribution, whether big or small, played an important role in achieving this milestone.

The Center of Toxicology and Biomarine Poisoning in collaboration with the Environmental Health and Safety Management Unit and Occupational Health and Safety successfully conducts the Basic Occupational Safety and Health (BOSH) Training – Batch 02.

This activity aims to strengthen workplace safety awareness, promote health-conscious practices, and equip participants with essential knowledge in occupational safety and hazard prevention. Through continuous learning and collaboration, we move towards creating a safer and healthier working environment for everyone.

Day 2 of our Basic Occupational Safety and Health (BOSH) Training is officially underway for the Toxicology Specialty Center! Today is all about moving from awareness to action as we dive deep into active surveillance, risk assessment, and hazard management.

Our team is currently tackling a packed agenda focused on strengthening our workplace safety protocols:

Medical Surveillance & Biological Monitoring – Tracking and ensuring the long-term health and well-being of our personnel.

Workplace Risk Assessment & Workshop – Identifying potential vulnerabilities and analyzing risks specific to our clinical environment.

Development of Control Measures (Health & Safety Hazards) – Implementing the Hierarchy of Controls to minimize risks through:

1. 🛠️ Engineering Controls (Isolating the hazard)

2. 📋 Administrative Controls (Changing the way we work & integrating Job Hazard Analysis/JHA)

3. 🥽 PPE (Our final line of defense)

Control Measures Evaluations Workshop – Putting our plans to the test to ensure they are practical, effective, and sustainable.

In response to the hazardous fumes from the Navotas Sanitary Landfill fire in April 2026, a medical mobilization was spearheaded by the Jose B. Lingad Memorial General Hospital (JBLMGH) Center for Toxicology and Biomarine Poisoning in close coordination with the Philippine Emergency Medical Team (PEMAT). As the subsurface fire emitted thick, toxic smoke that drifted into the coastal barangays of Obando, Bulacan, these specialized units established a medical stronghold at the Obando National High School evacuation center to manage the escalating health crisis affecting over 140 families.

The JBLMGH team's presence is vital in ensuring that the chemical nature of the smoke is properly understood, preventing more serious long-term health complications most especially for the vulnerable coastal communities.
