Not every classroom has four walls.

Some of the best learning happens in a room where no one is required to be there — where curiosity is the only prerequisite and storytelling is the subject.

Last weekend, I was back at the University of Antique facilitating a 2-day Cine Kasubay Filmmaking Workshop 2026. And from the first session, I remembered exactly why I've been doing this since 2008.

Willing learners change everything.

The difference between teaching at the university and running a workshop is vast.

Standing in front of 30 to 40 students sounds impressive — until you realize many of them are only there because they had to be. The energy is different. And the weight of having to quantify someone's passion with a grade, knowing it can shape their future — that never sat right with me.

Workshops are a different world entirely.

The people who show up are the ones who chose to be there. They come with fire, curiosity, and a genuine hunger to learn. That's when teaching feels less like a job and more like a calling.

Yesterday, only one student came to the Film Talk. And it was one of the most rewarding sessions I've had.

The discussion went deep into directing and cinematography — light, lenses, framing, angles, and how filmmakers craft the illusion of reality in every frame. We stepped outside, read the daylight, studied shadows, and talked about how a scene shot at night can feel like high noon. It wasn't just a lesson. It was a conversation between two people who love the craft of storytelling.

One student or twenty, the purpose is the same. I've always believed in quality over quantity, and yesterday proved it again.

Watch out for the next Film Talk date and venue. More soon. 🎬

In 2004, I met Francis Magalona. We built a small production house, talked endlessly about filmmaking, and noticed the same thing everywhere we looked — beautiful stories, shot poorly.

Not because the passion wasn't there. But because no one was teaching the craft, or maybe a few.

So we asked ourselves: if we can't stop people from making films, why not teach them how to do it right?

That question became 𝗪𝗥𝗜𝗧𝗘, 𝗦𝗛𝗢𝗢𝗧, 𝗖𝗨𝗧, 𝗣𝗟𝗔𝗬™ — born in the summer of 2008, built by filmmakers who believed storytelling deserved better.

The name itself was penned by the great Francis Magalona.

If you've ever been part of WSCP — as a student, mentor, or sponsor — you're carrying something bigger than a workshop. 𝗬𝗼𝘂'𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗿𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗰𝘆. If not... yet, this Saturday is the perfect time to experience and be part of it.

See you at BAKA NAMAN ATBP, San Jose. See details on the comment below.

A mentor of mine once said: there are two seasons in a person's life — a season of accumulation, and a season of contribution.

I've been in the accumulation season for over 25 years. Filmmaking. Storytelling. Making mistakes nobody warned me about. Learning things no workshop ever taught me. Building something through sheer repetition and passion.

And somewhere along the way, I realized — it's time for a contribution.

That's what this talk is — sitting down with you, and passing on what took me decades to figure out.

Here's the honest truth: fundamentals are boring. Nobody wants to talk about the basics. Everyone wants to jump straight into the "creative" part. But here's what I've seen — the filmmakers and storytellers who skip the foundation? They hit a wall. Every time. And the ones who took the time to actually understand the rules first? Those are the ones who eventually break them beautifully.

That's what I want for you.

And the investment? For what you're getting — 25 years worth of real experience for almost free!

So if this is speaking to you, just show up.

May 9, at Baka Naman, Atbp., San Jose, Antique.

I'll see you there.
..and ACTION!

𝗙𝗜𝗟𝗠 𝗧𝗔𝗟𝗞 𝗜𝗦 𝗕𝗔𝗖𝗞 — 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗧𝗛𝗜𝗦 𝗧𝗜𝗠𝗘, 𝗪𝗘'𝗥𝗘 𝗕𝗥𝗜𝗡𝗚𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗜𝗧 𝗧𝗢 𝗬𝗢𝗨.

The first edition was intimate.
Honestly? The turnout was small.

But something unexpected happened inside that space.
The conversations went deeper. The questions got real. The connections were genuine. And by the end of it, we all walked out feeling like something had shifted.

It inspired us — not to scale down, but to keep going. To make this a regular thing. To bring it closer to more people who need it.

So here we are. 𝗙𝗶𝗹𝗺 𝗧𝗮𝗹𝗸 𝗘𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝟮 is happening, and this time it's made possible by our partners at 𝗕𝗮𝗸𝗮 𝗡𝗮𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗔𝗧𝗕𝗣. Restaurant in San Jose, Antique — a place that believes in community, creativity, and good conversations over good food.

The starting line is not always loud.

Sometimes, it begins quietly — with one decision, one step, one honest attempt to finally start.

Today, I’m opening a new space where I can share reflections on movement, mindset, creativity, purpose, health, storytelling, and the constant journey of becoming better.

This is not about having everything figured out.
It’s about choosing to keep moving, keep learning, and keep creating.

Welcome to my Inspire to Move Journal.

Every finish line begins with one honest start.

There is a quiet kind of beginning. It does not always come with fireworks, a perfect plan, a grand announcement, or a dramatic change in life. Sometimes, it begins with a simple decision: I will s…

Sharing my good read this morning. I choose process over instant gratification. I’m a tortoise creating a house of brick, one brick at a time without any plan of stopping.

Choose discipline.

"We must all suffer from one of two pains: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret. The difference is discipline weighs ounces while regret weighs tons." — Jim Rohn

Discipline isn't punishment. It's the lighter load.

We’re born complete and capable, yet we’ve mastered the art of making excuses. This book reminds us that the only thing standing between us and our potential is the stories we tell ourselves. Time to stop explaining why we can’t, and start showing why we will. 💪
