It’s Glaucoma awareness week!

Ano ang GLAUCOMA?

Ang glaucoma ay isang sakit kung saan nasisira ang ugat ng mata na maaaring magdulot ng pagkabulag ng pasyente. Ang paninging nawala dahil sa glaucoma ay hindi na naibabalik, ngunit maaaring mapigilan ang tuluyang pagakabulag sa sakit na ito.

Sino ang maaaring magkaroon ng glaucoma?
- Mga pasyenteng may mataas na presyon ng mata
- May mataas na edad
- May history ng glaucoma sa pamilya
- May mataas na grado sa mata
- May sakit na diabetes, migraine, o altapresyon
- May history ng trauma at operasyon sa mata
- May history ng pag-inom o pagpatak ng gamot tulad ng steroids

Ano ang mga sintomas ng glaucoma?
- Paglabo ng paningin
- Pagkakaroon ng parte ng paningin na walang nakikita
- Pagsakit at pamumula ng mata
*Kapag hindi pa malala ang glaucoma, maaaring walang maramdaman ang pasyente.

Paano natitiyak na mayroong glaucoma ang isang pasyente?
Kailangang masuri ang mata ng isang espesyalista. Maaaring may ipagawa na tests tulad ng perimetry, optic nerve photo at optical coherence tomography para matukoy kung mayroong glaucoma ang isang pasyente.

Paano mapigilan ang paglala ng glaucoma?
Maaaring may ipapatak o iinumin na gamot upang mapababa ang presyon ng mata. Mayroon ding mga procedures na maaaring gawin tulad ng laser o operasyon.
