Push-ups do not have to start on the floor.
For women 40 and above, especially during menopause and beyond, strength training is one of the best gifts we can give our future selves. But that does not mean we need to begin with the hardest version of an exercise.
In this progression, I start at desk-level, then move gradually lower as I get stronger: thigh-level, knee-level, and eventually floor-level, which my coach demonstrates because I believe in both progress and outsourcing.
Push-ups help build upper-body strength, core stability, confidence, and the kind of functional strength we need for real life: carrying groceries, pushing doors, lifting things, getting up from the floor, and managing the daily Olympic event called womanhood.
Start high. Go lower over time.
Your body will adapt.
Your confidence will grow.
And yes, desk push-ups absolutely count.
