NUTRITIONAL STATUS AMONG CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS IN CAR 📊
The 2023 National Nutrition Survey highlights a promising yet complex picture for children in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).
CAR continues to show strong progress, with low rates of underweight and wasting across age groups—an important public health achievement. 💚
However, challenges remain:
🔸 Stunting persists, especially among younger children and those in rural and poor communities
🔸 Overweight and obesity are rising, particularly among school-aged children and adolescents in urban and non-poor households
This reflects a growing dual burden of malnutrition—where undernutrition and overnutrition coexist in the same region.
👉 Moving forward, efforts must be balanced:
✔ Strengthen nutrition support and food security for vulnerable groups
✔ Promote healthy diets, active lifestyles, and wellness for all
