☔ 𝗢𝗧 𝗕𝘂𝗯𝗯𝗹𝗲: 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗨𝘀𝗲 𝗮 𝗙𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗨𝗺𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗮! 💜

During one of the occupational therapy sessions last week, our OT taught these little kids how to use a foldable umbrella (something to explore aside from the typical kid's umbrella)—a practical life skill, especially during the rainy season. 🌧️

Learning how to use an umbrella is not only about keeping ourselves dry. It teaches children to 𝒑𝒓𝒆𝒑𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒘𝒆𝒂𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓, 𝒕𝒂𝒌𝒆 𝒄𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒊𝒓 𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒐𝒏𝒂𝒍 𝒏𝒆𝒆𝒅𝒔, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒃𝒆𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒆 𝒎𝒐𝒓𝒆 𝒊𝒏𝒅𝒆𝒑𝒆𝒏𝒅𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒊𝒏 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒚𝒅𝒂𝒚 𝒔𝒊𝒕𝒖𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔. Along the way, they also practice 𝒇𝒊𝒏𝒆 𝒎𝒐𝒕𝒐𝒓 𝒔𝒌𝒊𝒍𝒍𝒔, 𝒃𝒊𝒍𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒂𝒍 𝒄𝒐𝒐𝒓𝒅𝒊𝒏𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏, 𝒎𝒐𝒕𝒐𝒓 𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒏𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈, 𝒔𝒆𝒒𝒖𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒊𝒏𝒈, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒑𝒓𝒐𝒃𝒍𝒆𝒎-𝒔𝒐𝒍𝒗𝒊𝒏𝒈.

💡 And learning doesn't have to stop in therapy!

We encourage parents to let their children explore and practice using the different types of umbrellas 𝗮𝘃𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗮𝘁 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲—whether it's a foldable, straight, automatic, or another type. Each umbrella may work a little differently, giving children more opportunities to learn, adapt, and build confidence.

Whenever possible, let them try and practice with appropriate guidance and supervision, gradually giving them more responsibility as they become comfortable with the task.

Because everyday activities can become meaningful opportunities to build skills, confidence, and independence. Rainy season is also a learning season. ☔😊

We are deeply grateful to have been part of the 𝐃𝐋𝐒𝐌𝐇𝐒𝐈 𝐕𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐞𝐝 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐀𝐩𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐃𝐚𝐲 last August 7 and to be recognized as one of their valued partner centers. Representing Achievers at this meaningful gathering were two of our administrators, T. Jai and T. Cheska, who were grateful to be part of this celebration honoring partners who support the clinical education of future rehabilitation professionals. 💜

Our partnership with the DLSMHSI – College of Rehabilitation Sciences gives Achievers the opportunity to welcome 𝐒𝐩𝐞𝐞𝐜𝐡 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐋𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐮𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐏𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐬 𝐚𝐬 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐜𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐣𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐲.

This time, our Achievers kids brought nutrition to life through 𝗰𝗼𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗺𝗲𝘀, 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗹𝗼𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗳𝘂𝗻!!!

Dressing up and participating in themed activities gives children another meaningful way to 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗴𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗲, 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗸 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗼𝗱𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵𝘆 𝗵𝗮𝗯𝗶𝘁𝘀—𝘄𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺𝘀𝗲𝗹𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝗻𝗷𝗼𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲. 💜

Last Nutrition Month, our Achievers kids learned that healthy food can be an opportunity to learn, explore, and build independence. 💜

Our kids in the 𝑷𝒓𝒆𝒗𝒐𝒄𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒂𝒍 𝑹𝒆𝒂𝒅𝒊𝒏𝒆𝒔𝒔 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑻𝒓𝒂𝒏𝒔𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝑷𝒓𝒐𝒈𝒓𝒂𝒎 took their life-skills learning a step further by preparing their own 𝗙𝗿𝘂𝗶𝘁 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗰𝘂𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲 𝗕𝗼𝘅𝗲𝘀!🧺

Beyond making something beautiful and delicious, the activity gave them opportunities to practice task sequencing, organization, food preparation, following a process, and completing a functional task from start to finish—skills that can support greater independence and help them explore possible work roles in the future. 💼

Meanwhile, our 𝑩𝒓𝒊𝒅𝒈𝒆𝒔 𝒕𝒐 𝑰𝒏𝒅𝒆𝒑𝒆𝒏𝒅𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆 kids, our young learners had the chance to explore and participate in 𝗙𝗿𝘂𝗶𝘁 𝗦𝗸𝗲𝘄𝗲𝗿𝘀 meal preparation. 🍎🍡

Simple activities like these can help children develop everyday skills such as following directions, hand coordination, attention, participation, and growing confidence in doing things for themselves.🌱

Last Saturday, some of our Achievers parents gathered for a meaningful afternoon of learning, sharing, and discovering how we can help children find their voice through 𝗔𝘂𝗴𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗔𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 (𝗔𝗔𝗖). Our Occupational Therapists also attended the seminar to further enhance their knowledge and understanding of AAC, allowing them to collaborate more effectively with families, SLPs, and other professionals in supporting children who use it.

A heartfelt thank you to our wonderful speaker, T. Yslee, who is a certified AAC Specialist and senior RSLP, for generously sharing her knowledge, expertise, and passion with us. Your insights made this learning session truly meaningful. ✨

We are also deeply grateful to the parents who openly shared their thoughts, experiences, and personal journeys in supporting their child’s speech and communication. Your stories made the session even more meaningful and relatable.

One of the beautiful reminders from our session is that 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝘀. We appreciate and value every way a child communicates—whether through words, gestures, signs, facial expressions, body movements, pictures, AAC, or any other way they express themselves. 😊

This school year, we are happy to welcome our amazing 𝗦𝗡𝗘𝗗 𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀 as we begin another journey of learning and development together. 💜

At Achievers, every child is valued, supported, and empowered to learn in a nurturing environment that celebrates their unique strengths and potential. 🌟

We would also like to share an important update in our terminology:

✅ Starting this year, we will be using the term 𝗦𝗡𝗘𝗗 (𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗡𝗲𝗲𝗱𝘀 𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻) instead of SPED (Special Education) in our communications and center activities.

📚 What is the difference?
- 𝗦𝗣𝗘𝗗 (𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻): traditionally used to describe educational services designed for learners with disabilities or special needs

Due to the inclement weather, Achievers will be CLOSED TODAY, JULY 10. For the safety of our children, families, and staff, all therapy sessions and SPED classes are cancelled for the day.

Our secretary will contact you regarding your make-up sessions. You may also message our official page if you have any questions or concerns.
