🌿 Contact Dermatitis vs Atopic Dermatitis 🌿

Not all rashes are the same!

🔹 Contact Dermatitis
➡️ Caused by direct contact with an irritant or allergen
➡️ Appears only where the skin touched the trigger
➡️ Common triggers: soaps, detergents, fragrances, metals, cosmetics

🔹 Atopic Dermatitis (Eczema)
➡️ A chronic skin condition linked to a weakened skin barrier and immune system
➡️ Often runs in families and may be associated with asthma or allergic rhinitis
➡️ Commonly affects the face, neck, elbows, hands, and behind the knees

💡 Both can cause redness, itching, and dry skin, but identifying the cause is key to proper treatment.

When in doubt, consult a board-certified dermatologist or ALLERGIST for proper evaluation and management.

Allergies may NOT have a DEFINITE CURE, but they can often be effectively managed.

Allergen immunotherapy (allergy shots or sublingual therapy) can help reduce symptoms and improve quality of life in patients with allergic rhinitis, asthma, and certain environmental allergies. By gradually exposing the immune system to specific allergens, immunotherapy aims to decrease sensitivity over time, leading to better symptom control and reduced reliance on medications.

‼️However, it is important to note that there are currently insufficient studies to support the routine use of immunotherapy for food allergies. Food allergy management still primarily focuses on strict avoidance of the culprit food and preparedness for accidental exposures.‼️

Consult your board-certified allergist to determine whether immunotherapy is appropriate for your specific condition.
