Congratulations to our Fatima University Medical Center – Valenzuela Medical Center Consortium Department of Surgery family on another proud milestone! 🎉

We proudly congratulate our esteemed Chairman, Dr. Neil Mendoza, and our Trauma & Critical Care Specialist, Dr. Albertson Gumarao, on their induction as Board of Trustees of the Philippine Society of General Surgeons – Metro Manila Chapter.

We also celebrate our very own graduate, Dr. Karel Tangara, and our Minimally Invasive Surgery Fellow, Dr. Joedy Martinez, on their induction as Fellows of the Philippine Society of General Surgeons—a testament to their dedication, excellence, and commitment to the surgical profession.

6th Place out of 35 competing institutions!

For the second consecutive year, the Consortium has earned a place on the national stage and will proudly represent our institution at the National Surgical Skills Competition this August 2026 at the EDSA Shangri-La Hotel.

Last month was incredible! Our Department recently held its Annual Strategic Planning and Team Building, bringing together our consultants, residents, and dedicated secretaries for a meaningful time of collaboration, reflection, and camaraderie.

More than just an event, it was an opportunity to realign our vision, strengthen our commitment to excellence, and set clear goals for the months ahead. Through teamwork, open communication, and shared purpose, we continue to build a stronger, more competent, and more united Department of Surgery.

March is National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month! 🎗️

Today, the Surgical Consortium proudly joined the Bowel Run spearheaded by PSCRS and hosted by one of our colorectal surgeon Dr. Gutierrez, in support of raising awareness about colorectal cancer—the third most common cancer worldwide.

Beyond advocacy, this run reminds us that caring for others also means caring for ourselves. Amid the demanding life of surgery residency, moments like this allow our residents to recharge, stay active, and fight burnout through physical fitness, camaraderie, and shared purpose.

Leading the charge (and stealing the spotlight 🐶) was the department’s beloved canine, Luffy the Corgi, proving that even the smallest runner can inspire the biggest smiles!

Together, we run for awareness.
Together, we run for prevention.
Together, we run for stronger surgeons and healthier communities.
