A heartbreaking reminder that rabies is a serious and life-threatening disease.
Our deepest condolences to the family of the 4-year-old boy who lost his life after being bitten by a dog.
This heartbreaking incident reminds us that rabies can be fatal once symptoms appearโbut it is preventable when proper post-exposure treatment is given as early as possible.
๐พ If you or your child is bitten or scratched by a dog, cat, or other potentially rabid animal:

Wash the wound immediately with soap and running water
โ
Seek medical attention as soon as possible
โ
Have the bite properly assessed
โ
Complete the recommended anti-rabies vaccination schedule
โ
If indicated, Rabies Immunoglobulin (RIG) may also be needed, especially for severe exposures

Namatay ang isang apat na taong gulang na lalaki sa General Santos City mahigit isang buwan matapos umano itong makagat ng isang a*ong-gala na pinaniniwalaang may rabies.
Agad siyang dinala sa ospital kung saan nilinis at tinahi ang kaniyang mga sugat. Binigyan din siya ng bakuna laban sa tetanus.
Matapos ibigay ang tetanus shot noong gabi, kinaumagahan ay ibinigay naman sa bata ang unang dose ng bakuna laban sa rabies. Naka-tatlong dose ng anti-rabies shot ang bata pero bago ang ikaapat na dose, nakitaan na umano ng sintomas ng rabies ang bata.
Ayon sa ospital kung saan na-admit ang bata, karaniwang apat na dose ng bakuna ang ibinibigay sa nakagat ng a*o ngunit hindi na umabot sa huling dose ang pasyente. Nagkaroon din siya ng sugat mula sa kagat ng a*o na malapit sa kaniyang ulo.
โUnfortunately, umabot siya ng third dose pero hindi na siya umabot ng fourth dose. We categorize yung mga sugat or kagat ng a*oโฆ sa pasyente, Category 3โฆ masyado nang malapit sa ulo.
