IPHO-Sulu in partnership with DOH Holds Mass Screening for Cervical and Breast Cancer on May 21-22, 2026 stationed at Sulu Sanitarium and General Hospital

The Integrated Provincial Health Office – Sulu (IPHO-Sulu), in partnership with the Department of Health – Zamboanga Peninsula Center for Health Development (DOH ZP-CHD), Zamboanga City Medical Center (ZCMC), Sulu Sanitarium and General Hospital (SSGH), Sulu Provincial Government, and Sulu Provincial Women’s Council (SPWC), will conduct a two-day Mass Screening Activity for Cervical and Breast Cancer on May 21–22, 2026, stationed at the Sulu Sanitarium and General Hospital in Jolo.

This initiative is anchored on the national campaign, “Para sa Cervical Cancer-Free na Pilipinas: Alamin, Iwasan, Labanan ang Human Papilloma Virus (HPV),” in observance of the National Cervical Cancer Awareness Month this May, in collaboration with the Philippine Obstetrical and Gynecological Society (POGS), the Society of Gynecologic Oncologists of the Philippines (SGOP), and the Philippine Society of Cervical Pathology and Colposcopy (PSCPC).

Recognizing that early detection saves lives, the activity aims to strengthen access to essential screening services, promote awareness on cervical and breast cancer prevention, and reinforce commitment to accessible healthcare.

The IPHO-Sulu strongly encourages all women, particularly those aged 30 years old and above, to come and participate in the screening activity, toward reducing cervical and breast cancer among women in Sulu

𝗗𝗿. 𝗡𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗷𝗮𝗺 𝗘𝘀𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲𝘀, Palliative and Hospice Care Specialist, together with our resident rotators, conducted 𝙥𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙘𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙨𝙚𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙛𝙖𝙢𝙞𝙡𝙮 𝙢𝙚𝙚𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙨 for both inpatient and outpatient cases to help establish individualized goals of care.

Palliative care plays an important role in improving the quality of life of patients and families facing serious illness. It focuses not only on symptom management and comfort, but also on addressing emotional, psychosocial, and family concerns through compassionate and patient-centered care. Open discussions with patients and their loved ones help ensure that medical decisions remain aligned with the patient’s values, needs, and preferences.

Through these encounters, palliative care continues to emphasize empathy, communication, dignity, and holistic care at every stage of illness. 🤍
