Another Milestone in the History of Pediatric Cardiac Care in Gilgit-Baltistan.
Alhamdulillah, another significant achievement has been accomplished at Gilgit Cardiac Hospital, Gilgit.
For the first time in the history of Gilgit-Baltistan, CT Angiography in children has been successfully performed under the supervision of Dr. Azizullah, Consultant Child Specialist & Pediatric Cardiologist.
The first patient was a 6-year-old girl from the Kargil area of Skardu who presented with single-lung ventilation. CT angiography confirmed a congenitally absent left pulmonary artery along with a large secundum atrial septal defect (ASD), providing crucial information for further management.
The second patient was a 2-year-old child from District Diamer with severe pulmonary arterial hypertension and significant enlargement of the right side of the heart. CT angiography was performed to accurately delineate the pulmonary venous anatomy, an essential step in establishing the diagnosis and planning future treatment.
These advanced imaging studies represent another major step forward in bringing modern pediatric cardiac diagnostic services closer to the children of Gilgit-Baltistan, reducing the need for families to travel to distant cities for specialized investigations.
