The missing policy gap :

What role has the well-settled diaspora played in advancing disability inclusion back home?
Across the UK, North America, and beyond, many from Gilgit-Baltistan have achieved remarkable professional and financial success. They are leaders, policymakers, academics, and entrepreneurs—well-positioned to influence systems, shape discourse, and advocate for those left behind.
Yet, disability remains one of the most under-addressed areas in our collective development journey.
Where are the structured interventions?
Where is the sustained advocacy for inclusive policy?
Where is the investment in accessibility, assistive technologies, and skills development for persons with disabilities?
This is not a criticism of intent—but of impact.
While remittances and philanthropy have supported education and infrastructure, disability has too often remained at the margins—treated as charity rather than a matter of rights, policy, and long-term inclusion.
The reality is this: without deliberate policy engagement and targeted action, persons with disabilities in Gilgit-Baltistan will continue to face systemic barriers to education, employment, and dignity.
The question is not whether we care. Clearly not.
The question is whether we are willing to act—strategically, collectively, and with accountability.
The legacy we often celebrate was never about comfort. It was about responsibility.
And that responsibility now extends to ensuring that no one—especially those with disabilities—is left behind.

Exploring opportunities for skills development for persons with disabilities in Gilgit-Baltistan remains a top priority for the Goodwill Disability Foundation and the Gilgit-Baltistan Goodwill Movement.
We are immensely grateful to Major General Naiknam Muhammad Baig, Pro-Rector (Skills), National University of Technology, Islamabad, and his team of experts for providing us with this valuable opportunity to visit the university's various skills development laboratories.
We will strive to translate this learning into practical impact. Thank you for your assurance that opportunities for persons with disabilities from Gilgit-Baltistan will benefit from these initiatives through collaboration with our local organisation
