Medical Emergency Resilience Foundation (MERF) was incorporated on 2nd day of November 2015, as a company limited by guarantee under Section 42 of the Companies Ordinance, 1984. The main objective of the Company is to improve health status of population by human resource development through capacity building and strengthening the health system including effective management of health information system and efficient supply chain system for better health outcomes. It also aims at improving hospitals, rural health centers, basic health units and support provision in case of emergencies delivering relief in response to a natural and man-made disaster including health and nutrition services.

جنوبی وزیرستان کے دور افتادہ علاقے وانا میں مرف کے زیر انتظام DHQ ہسپتال میں جدید اور بروقت امراض قلب کی سہولیات ایک نئی امید بن چکی ہیں۔ سینے میں شدید درد کے ساتھ آنے والے متعدد ہارٹ اٹیک کے مریضوں کو بروقت تشخیص، فوری ECG، اور جان بچانے والے Streptokinase Thrombolysis کے ذریعےعلاج کامیابی سےکیا گیا، جس کے بعد انہیں مزید علاج کے لئے بروقت ریفر کیا گیا۔ یہ بروقت اقدامات مریضوں کی جان بچانے میں فیصلہ کن ثابت ہوئے۔

𝗧𝗛𝗘𝗬 𝗦𝗔𝗜𝗗 𝗡𝗢 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗬𝗘𝗔𝗥𝗦. 𝗪𝗘 𝗡𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗥 𝗦𝗧𝗢𝗣𝗣𝗘𝗗 𝗦𝗛𝗢𝗪𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗨𝗣.
In Chishtiabad, Peshawar - 14 children had remained chronically Zero-Dose, some for three to four years despite repeated efforts to reach their families.

This time, the MERF-Medical Emergency Resilience Foundation team took a different approach. No confrontation. No pressure. Just patience, listening and trust.

Through regular household visits including evening and night-time engagements, the team sat with families, listened to their concerns, understood the reasons behind refusal, and addressed vaccine misinformation one concern at a time. Trusted community voices, including Scholar Akbar Khan, helped open doors and create space for meaningful dialogue. Religious concerns were addressed through relevant Islamic teachings and trusted religious perspectives, while repeated counseling helped families separate misinformation from facts.

The team kept coming back not once, not twice, but until resistance began turning into dialogue, dialogue into trust, and trust into acceptance.
And then came the breakthrough.

14 chronically Zero-Dose children vaccinated.
What makes this achievement powerful is not only the number, it is how it happened.
When pressure failed, trust worked. When confrontation closed doors, dialogue opened them. And when others might have stopped trying, the MERF team kept showing up.
From refusal → dialogue → trust → acceptance → protection.
Because every child matters, and no child should remain unreached.

یونین کونسل صالح پٹ، سکھر، سندھ میں 20 خواتین نے کامیابی کے ساتھ ایک ماہ پر مشتمل سلائی اور کڑھائی کی تربیت مکمل کی، جس کے بعد انہیں چھوٹے کاروبار کے انتظام (Small Business Management) کی تربیت بھی فراہم کی گئی تاکہ وہ اپنی مہارت کو باعزت روزگار اور کامیاب کاروبار میں تبدیل کر سکیں۔

یہ ٹریننگ MERF (میڈیکل ایمرجنسی ریزیلینس فاؤنڈیشن) کی جانب سے Scatec اور اس کے انرجی پارٹنرز کے تعاون سے کی گئی ، جس کا مقصد سندھ کے سیلاب سے متاثرہ علاقوں میں خواتین کو بااختیار بنانا، پائیدار ذریعہ معاش فراہم کرنا اور گھریلو آمدنی میں اضافہ کرنا ہے۔

تربیت مکمل کرنے والی ہر خاتون کو اپنے کاروبار کا آغاز کرنے کے لیے سلائی کٹ بھی فراہم کی گئی تاکہ وہ حاصل کی گئی مہارت کو عملی طور پر استعمال کرتے ہوئے مستقل آمدنی کا ذریعہ بنا سکیں۔

تربیت کی کامیاب تکمیل پر شرکاء میں اسناد تقسیم کی گئیں۔ اس تقریب میں اسسٹنٹ کمشنر (AC)، Scatec کے سینئر نمائندگان اور MERF کے حکام نے شرکت کی-
MERF مہارتوں کی ترقی، کاروباری تربیت اور پائیدار ذریعہ معاش کے مواقع فراہم کرتے ہوئے، بالخصوص خواتین کو بااختیار بنانے، معاشی خودمختاری کو فروغ دینے اور سندھ کے سیلاب سے متاثرہ علاقوں میں مضبوط، خود کفیل اور باہمت کمیونٹیز کی تشکیل کے لیے پرعزم ہے۔

is one of the most powerful investments in a child's healthy start to life. It provides essential nutrition, strengthens immunity, supports healthy growth and brain development, and lays the foundation for lifelong well being.

During the UNICEF Pakistan team visit to the Early Childhood Development (ECD) Centre in Thatta, the team observed ECD activities and World Breastfeeding Month awareness sessions focused on promoting the importance of breastfeeding, responsive caregiving, and early childhood development.

Through the "Increased Access to Early Childhood Nutrition, Middle Childhood, Adolescent, and Maternal Nutrition Preventive and Curative Services in Targeted Districts of Sindh Province" project, MERF-Medical Emergency Resilience Foundation, with the support of UNICEF, is strengthening nutrition and ECD services across Jacobabad, Thatta, and Dadu.

The project is empowering mothers, caregivers, families, and communities by:
🍼 Promoting exclusive breastfeeding and optimal infant and young child feeding practices.
👩‍👦 Providing MIYCN counseling and practical nutrition demonstrations.
🌱 Raising awareness on age appropriate complementary feeding.
❤️ Encouraging responsive caregiving through ECD parenting sessions.
🤝 Strengthening integrated nutrition and early childhood development services across community, school, and health facility platforms.

This August, as we mark World Breastfeeding Month, MERF reaffirms its commitment to ensuring every child receives the best possible start in life through improved nutrition, quality care, and informed communities.

ماں کا دودھ، بچے کی بہترین غذا

عالمی ماہ براے بریسٹ فیڈنگ کے موقع پر ڈسٹرکٹ ہیڈکوارٹر ہسپتال وانا میں آگاہی تقریب کا انعقاد کیا گیا۔ اس موقع پر ماؤں اور کمیونٹی کے افراد کو ماں کے دودھ کی اہمیت، نومولود کی بہتر نشوونما، بیماریوں سے تحفظ اور صحت مند مستقبل کے حوالے سے آگاہ کیا گیا۔

تقریب کا مقصد اس پیغام کو عام کرنا تھا کہ زندگی کے پہلے چھ ماہ تک صرف ماں کا دودھ بچے کی بہترین غذا ہے، جبکہ دو سال یا اس سے زیادہ عرصے تک مناسب تکمیلی غذا کے ساتھ دودھ پلانا بچے کی جسمانی اور ذہنی نشوونما کے لیے نہایت اہم ہے۔

Nurturing Every Child Through Breastfeeding
MERF proudly joins the global observance of World Breastfeeding Month with a special focus on World Breastfeeding Week from 1 to 7 August, reaffirming its commitment to improving maternal and child nutrition across Pakistan.
Through its nutrition and community health programs, MERF-Medical Emergency Resilience Foundation works alongside Federal & Provincial governments, institutions, BISP Pakistan, UNICEF Pakistan , World Food Programme and other partners to strengthen awareness on the importance of early initiation of breastfeeding within the first hour of birth, exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months, and continued breastfeeding with appropriate complementary feeding up to two years and beyond.
Community awareness sessions, behavior change communication, outreach campaigns, educational materials, and engagement with families help empower mothers, fathers, caregivers, and community leaders to create supportive environments where every child can receive the healthiest start in life.
Breastfeeding is one of the most effective ways to protect infants from malnutrition and infections while promoting healthy growth, brain development, and lifelong wellbeing. Together, we can ensure every child has the opportunity to thrive through informed choices and community support.

Community Outreach Workers (COWs) are at the forefront of MERF's efforts to strengthen routine immunization and support polio eradication across the Super High-Risk Union Councils (SHRUCs) of Peshawar. Through social mapping, Union Council profiling, and continuous engagement with religious leaders, community elders, healthcare providers, pharmacists, teachers, and other influential stakeholders, they are building trusted partnerships that encourage families to protect their children through vaccination.

These community-led interactions help identify local challenges, address misconceptions about vaccines, and strengthen confidence in routine immunization services. By fostering dialogue and collaboration with key influencers, Community Outreach Workers are creating an enabling environment where every child has greater access to life-saving vaccines and every family is empowered to make informed health decisions.

With support from the Gates Foundation, MERF-Medical Emergency Resilience Foundation is successfully managing 15 Civil Dispensaries across the Super High-Risk Union Councils of Peshawar, delivering integrated Primary Health Care (PHC) services, routine immunization, free OPD consultations, essential medicines, and Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (MNCH) services. Through this integrated approach, MERF is helping strengthen community trust, improve immunization coverage, and move Pakistan one step closer to a polio-free future.
