MacConkey / Sabouraud CAF is a dual-compartment prepared culture plate designed for the simultaneous isolation of Gram-negative bacteria, yeasts, and fungi from a single specimen. The MacConkey Agar section selectively isolates Gram-negative enteric bacteria while differentiating lactose fermenters from non-lactose fermenters. The Sabouraud CAF Agar section promotes the recovery of yeasts and molds while helping suppress bacterial contamination, making it ideal for mixed clinical samples.
When should it be used?
This medium is recommended for clinical microbiology laboratories when investigating specimens that may contain both bacterial and fungal pathogens, such as respiratory samples, wound swabs, skin and soft tissue specimens, and other mixed cultures.
