The Radiology Department, National Institute of Child Health, Karachi, successfully organized a heartfelt Senior Colleagues Farewell and Staff Appreciation Ceremony on 22 June 2026 at the First Floor Auditorium. The event was a memorable occasion dedicated to honoring the remarkable service, dedication, and invaluable contributions of our respected colleagues Mr. Izhar ul Hasan, Mr. A. Haseeb Khan, Mr. Jawed Rehman, Mr. Meer Nazir, and Mr. Ghulam Mustafa on the occasion of their retirement.

Faculty members, staff, and colleagues gathered to celebrate their achievements, share cherished memories, and express gratitude for their years of commitment to patient care and departmental excellence. 🦠 Mini Symposium on Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Successfully Conducted
The Department of Pediatric Infectious Diseases, National Institute of Child Health (NICH), Karachi, successfully conducted a practical-based Mini Symposium on Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) on 22 June 2026 at the NICH Auditorium.
The session featured informative presentations by Dr. Wajid Hussain and Ms. Safia Bibi, focusing on evidence-based infection prevention measures and healthcare worker safety in accordance with international standards and JCI requirements.
The symposium witnessed excellent participation from faculty members, doctors, nurses, residents, and students, who actively engaged in the practical demonstrations and discussions. The interactive session strengthened participants’ knowledge and reinforced the importance of maintaining a safe healthcare environment.
The activity was successfully organized under the coordination of Dr. Mehboob Nonari, Dr. Shabana, Dr. Sadia, Mr. Aashiq Hussain, and Mr. Sakhi, whose efforts contributed greatly to the success of the event.
Prof. Nasir Saleem Saddal, Executive Director, NICH, appreciated the enthusiastic participation of all attendees and commended the organizing team for conducting an impactful educational activity aimed at promoting patient safety and strengthening infection prevention and control practices.

🌿 Awareness Session Successfully Conducted on Allergic Rhinitis & Awareness Walk 🌿
The Medical Unit-I, Pediatric Pulmonology Unit of the National Institute of Child Health (NICH), Karachi, successfully conducted an educational session titled “Allergic Rhinitis: Understanding Triggers, Symptoms, and Management” on 18th June 2026 at the Main Auditorium Hall, NICH. The program was followed by an awareness walk to emphasize the importance of early recognition, prevention, and appropriate management of allergic rhinitis.
The session aimed to enhance awareness among patients, families, students, and healthcare professionals regarding common allergens, early recognition of symptoms, preventive strategies, and evidence-based management of allergic rhinitis. Insightful presentations and expert discussions were delivered by Prof. Sultan Mustafa, with valuable contributions from Prof. Khalid Mahmood A. Khan and Prof. M. Ashfaq, while Dr. Khatidja Ally moderated the session.
The interactive program and awareness walk highlighted that timely diagnosis and proper management of allergic rhinitis can significantly improve quality of life and help prevent complications such as asthma and sinus disease. Participants actively engaged in discussions and joined the awareness walk, reaffirming the importance of continuous health education and community engagement in promoting better respiratory health.

Karachi, June 16, 2026: Chairperson Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) Senator Rubina Khalid, Sindh Health Minister Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho, Executive Director NICH, representatives of the World Health Organization (WHO) and Gavi inaugurated the Nutrition Stabilization Centre and Model EPI Centre at the National Institute of Child Health (NICH), Karachi, under the Benazir Nashonuma Programme.

The Nutrition Stabilization Centre has been established to provide specialized care and treatment for children suffering from moderate and severe acute malnutrition, while the Model EPI Centre aims to strengthen immunization services and improve child health outcomes. The initiative reflects the collective commitment of the Government of Pakistan, Government of Sindh, WHO, development partners, and NICH to combat child malnutrition and enhance healthcare services for vulnerable children and families.

کراچی (رپورٹ): نیشنل انسٹی ٹیوٹ آف چائلڈ ہیلتھ (NICH) کراچی کے مین آڈیٹوریم میں ورلڈ استھما ڈے 2026 کی مناسبت سے ایک اہم اور عملی کلینیکل اسکلز ورکشاپ کا انعقاد کیا گیا۔ اس سال ورکشاپ کا بنیادی تھیم "استھما کے مریضوں کے لیے اینٹی انفلیمیٹری انہیلرز تک رسائی - اب بھی ایک اہم ضرورت" رکھا گیا، جس کا مقصد دمہ کے علاج میں جدید طریقوں اور ادویات کی بلا تعطل فراہمی کی اہمیت کو اجاگر کرنا تھا۔
ورکشاپ کے بنیادی مقاصد اور سیکھنے کے عمل
یہ ورکشاپ خصوصی طور پر بچوں کے ماہرینِ طب (Pediatricians)، ریسپیریٹری تھراپسٹس (Respiratory Therapists) اور میڈیکل کے طلبہ کے لیے ترتیب دی گئی تھی۔ ورکشاپ کے دوران ماہرین نے شرکاء کو دمہ کے مریضوں کی تشخیص اور علاج کے لیے درج ذیل کلیدی مہارتوں کے عملی مظاہرے (Live Demonstrations) پیش کیے:
اسپائرومیٹری (Spirometry): پھیپھڑوں کی کارکردگی جانچنے کا درست طریقہ۔
پیک فلو مانیٹرنگ (Peak Flow Monitoring): سانس کی نالیوں میں رکاوٹ کا تعین کرنا۔
انہیلر کا درست استعمال (Proper Inhaler Techniques): مریضوں کو انہیلر کے درست استعمال کی تربیت فراہم کرنا تاکہ دوا کا اثر سو فیصد ممکن ہو سکے۔

On the occasion of International Thalassemia Day, a seminar was organized by Med-U-3 at National Institute of Child Health on Saturday, 16th May 2026, under the supervision of Dr. Bader-u-Nisa Sodhar.
The seminar focused on creating awareness about thalassemia, its prevention, early diagnosis, timely transfusion, and comprehensive patient care. Distinguished speakers included Prof. Irum Shaikh, Dr. Mariyam Raza, and Dr. Zareen Irshad, who highlighted the importance of timely CVS sampling for prenatal diagnosis and prevention of thalassemia, along with safe transfusion practices and multidisciplinary patient care.
The Chief Guest of the event was Dr. Durr-e-Naz Salman, while Dr. Aftab Ahmed Mallah and Dr. Yasmeen attended as Guests of Honour. Esteemed panelists, including Prof. Nighat Ali Shah and Prof. Kauser Saldera, emphasized that awareness, carrier screening, avoidance of cousin marriages, and prenatal diagnosis are essential steps toward building a healthier future for coming generations and reducing the burden of thalassemia in society.
The event was well attended by senior faculty members, including Prof. Ashfaq Sindhu, Prof. Arit Parkash, Prof. Naima Zamir, postgraduate students, and the Principal College of Nursing, Ms. Shabana Nazir, along with her students.
Remarks were also delivered by Prof. Nasir Saleem Sadal and Prof. Mohsina Ibrahim, who appreciated the efforts made toward spreading awareness regarding thalassemia prevention and comprehensive patient care. The event was gracefully moderated by Dr. Faiqa Hassan.
