Solidarity in Action: JPMC Doctors Stand with Balochistan’s Medical Community
Earlier today at 12:00 PM, as announced, the medical fraternity of Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) gathered at the OPD Complex to record a formal protest. Our message is unequivocal: we stand in complete and unwavering solidarity with the doctors of Balochistan.
We strongly condemn the brutal attack on our respected colleague in Quetta. While we acknowledge that the accused in this specific incident is no longer alive, the fundamental crisis remains deeply unresolved. Across Pakistan, the safety and security of healthcare professionals are consistently compromised.
Physicians dedicate their lives to healing and serving humanity. It is categorically unacceptable that those who work tirelessly to save lives must live in fear for their own while simply performing their professional duties.
Today's protest demonstrated a powerful and unified medical community. We were joined by prominent leadership, including Dr. Omer Sultan (Patron-in-Chief, YDA Pakistan), Dr. Sajjad Bughio (Senior Vice President, YDA Sindh), and Dr. Kanwal Soomro (Senior Vice President, YDA Sindh). They stood shoulder-to-shoulder with the full cabinet of YDA JPMC and our dedicated doctors, amplifying our collective voice.
Today's gathering at JPMC was not just a protest; it was a firm demand for immediate and systemic change. We call upon the government and relevant health authorities to implement:
- Secure Work Environments: Guaranteed physical security in all wards, emergency rooms, and OPDs.
- Stronger Legal Protections: Robust, strictly enforced protection protocols for all frontline healthcare workers.
- Concrete Preventative Measures: Actionable strategies and rapid-response systems to ensure such tragic incidents are never repeated.
An injury to one doctor is an injury to the entire medical community. We will continue to raise our voices and advocate for our fundamental right to practice medicine safely and without fear.
