Educational Storytelling through AI Workshop by IME-JSMU

The Institute of Medical Education (IME), Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU), successfully organized a workshop titled “Educational Storytelling through AI” on 18 August 2026, facilitated by Dr. Sidra Mehak, Lecturer, Institute of Medical Education, JSMU.

The session commenced with a warm welcome from Prof. Dr. Syeda Kauser Ali, Chairperson, Institute of Medical Education. The workshop focused on the use of prompt engineering for story writing, storyboard development, and the production of short educational videos using AI tools.

Through engaging discussions and hands-on activities, participants explored innovative ways to transform educational content into compelling stories and visually engaging videos. The session highlighted how AI can support educators in creating meaningful and engaging learning experiences for students.

The workshop was attended by a diverse group of faculty members and healthcare professionals from JSMU and various medical institutions, providing an excellent platform for knowledge sharing, collaboration, and meaningful discussion.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks and certificate distribution by Prof. Dr. Syeda Kauser Ali, marking a successful and enriching learning experience for all participants.

🇵🇰 IPS-JSMU Announces Final Results of Independence Day Reel Competition 🇵🇰

The Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (IPS), Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU), successfully concluded its Independence Day Reel Competition under the theme “AZADI — A Feeling, A Responsibility, A Future.” The competition was held under the leadership of Principal IPS, Prof. Dr. Huma Ali, and organized by the IPS Student Federation. Participants creatively expressed their perspectives on Azadi through storytelling, personal reflection, civic responsibility, heritage, empowerment, and their vision for Pakistan’s future.

The submitted reels were evaluated by a distinguished panel of faculty judges comprising Dr. Kiran Qadeer, Dr. Fozia Israr, Dr. Ahsaan Ahmed, and Mr. Kashan Majeed. The entries were assessed on Originality & Storytelling, Technical Ex*****on, Theme Relevance & Depth, Overall Impact, and Compliance & Decorum. After careful evaluation, Ayesha Zubair (IPS) secured First Position, Shilpa Kumari (SMC) secured Second Position, while Komal Zehra (IPS) secured Third Position.

IPS-JSMU congratulates all the winners and participants for their creativity, dedication, and meaningful representation of the spirit of independence. Principle IPS also appreciated the efforts of organising team including Hamza Kazi, Umaima Ashraf, Qirat Haya and Shiza, The competition provided students with an opportunity to express what Azadi means to them while highlighting their sense of responsibility, national identity, and hopes for Pakistan’s future. 🇵🇰

SMC-JSMU Successfully Concludes Four-Week Pilot AI Training Series for Faculty

Sindh Medical College (SMC), Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU), successfully concluded its four-week pilot training series, “Interactive Hands-On Series on Emerging AI Tools,” held every Friday from 24 July to 21 August 2026 at the Hematology Lab, JSMU, in collaboration with the Departments of Biochemistry and Physiology.

The training focused on the practical and hands-on use of emerging Artificial Intelligence tools for education, academic work, research, professional activities, and administrative tasks. Through live demonstrations and practical exercises, faculty members explored how AI can support teaching, learning, research, academic content development, and routine professional responsibilities.

The four-week series was organized by Prof. Dr. Quratul Aen Inam, Dr. Abid Ali, and Dr. Bilal Aheed from the Department of Biochemistry, with Dr. Abid Ali serving as the AI Trainer and Facilitator.

Prof. Dr. Ambreen Usmani, Principal, Sindh Medical College, actively participated in the sessions and distributed certificates during the concluding session. She appreciated the efforts of the facilitator and highlighted that JSMU now has its own dedicated AI resource person.

The Chairpersons of Physiology and Biochemistry, Prof. Dr. Asif Memon and Prof. Dr. Saima Aqil, along with other faculty members, also participated actively and shared their experiences and observations throughout the training. Prof. Dr. Asif Memon announced that another batch will soon be initiated to provide AI training to additional faculty members.

Faculty members appreciated the training for its practical, informative, and engaging approach and recommended that similar hands-on sessions be conducted regularly to keep pace with the rapidly evolving field of Artificial Intelligence.

The successful conclusion of the four-week pilot series marks another step by SMC-JSMU towards strengthening digital skills, promoting AI-enabled education and research, and building the capacity of faculty to effectively integrate emerging technologies into academic and professional practices.

IoNAM - JSMU conducts Session on Qualitative Research: Building Research Capacity Among Final Year Students and Faculty

The Principal, Institute of Nursing and Midwifery (IONAM), Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU), organized an insightful academic session on Qualitative Research for final-year students and faculty members. The session aimed to strengthen understanding of qualitative research methodologies and enhance capacity for meaningful and contextually relevant research in nursing and healthcare.

The session was facilitated by Professor Sarfraz Masih, Professor of Nursing at the Lahore School of Nursing, The University of Lahore. With his extensive academic and professional experience, Professor Masih provided practical insights into the application of qualitative research in healthcare settings.

Professor Masih introduced the fundamental concepts, principles, and significance of qualitative research, along with major qualitative research approaches and their application in nursing and healthcare. He also discussed developing clear and focused research questions and selecting appropriate research designs.

The session covered qualitative data collection methods, including interviews, focus group discussions, observations, and other techniques for obtaining rich and meaningful data. Strategies for ensuring credibility, dependability, confirmability, and transferability were also discussed to promote methodological rigor.

Through practical examples and interactive discussions, participants explored the relevance of qualitative research to real-world nursing and healthcare scenarios. Final-year students particularly benefited from the session as they prepare to undertake their research projects, while faculty members gained further insights into strengthening qualitative research practices.

At the conclusion, the Principal, IONAM-JSMU, Ms. Rubina Hafeez presented a token of appreciation to Professor Sarfraz Masih in recognition of his valuable contribution, expertise, and commitment to strengthening research capacity among nursing students and faculty members.

The session concluded with appreciation to the facilitator, faculty, and students for their active participation. The event reflected IONAM-JSMU’s continued commitment to fostering a strong research culture and promoting evidence-informed nursing education and practice.

Interviews Held for Induction of MSPH Batch XII at AIPH

The APPNA Institute of Public Health (AIPH), Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU), conducted interviews for the induction of MSPH Batch XII on Wednesday, August 19, 2026. Following the written entry test, 102 applicants were shortlisted, of whom 91 appeared for the interviews. The candidates were assessed through four interview panels, designated as Panel A, Panel B, Panel C, and Panel D, with each applicant interviewed for approximately 5–7 minutes.

The interviews were structured to assess candidates across four key domains, including relevant experience and skills, understanding of the subject and intelligence, communication skills, and commitment and motivation. The structured process enabled the panels to assess applicants’ academic and professional backgrounds, public health knowledge, analytical and critical-thinking abilities, communication skills, motivation to pursue the MSPH degree, and their commitment to a future career in public health.

The four interview panels comprised distinguished faculty and professionals from AIPH. Panel A included Prof. Amna Rehana Siddiqui, Dr. Saima Ibbad, and Dr. Jai Dev. Panel B comprised Prof. Shiraz Shaikh, Dr. Mariyam Noman, and Dr. Sania Jahan. Panel C included Dr. Zaeema Ahmer, Dr. Mohammad Irfan, and Mr. Naqash Mukhtiar, while Panel D comprised Dr. Greesh Kumar Maheshwari, Dr. Aroosa Nadeem, and Mr. Sajid Atif Aleem.

The interviews provided an opportunity to evaluate applicants beyond their academic credentials and assess their preparedness, communication abilities, motivation, and potential to successfully undertake postgraduate training in public health. The use of the same four assessment domains across all panels ensured a consistent, systematic, and transparent approach to the evaluation and contributed to the overall selection of suitable candidates for MSPH Batch XII.

The proceedings were facilitated by Mr. Khurram Aleem, Ms. Darshana Suneel, and Mr. Zeeshan Bhutto from AIPH administration. Their coordination contributed to the smooth and organized conduct of the interview process, marking an important step towards the induction of the next cohort of MSPH students at AIPH-JSMU.

IMIG-SMC Hosts Orientation 2026, Celebrating Leadership, Learning & Collaboration

The Internal Medicine Interest Group, Sindh Medical College (IMIG-SMC), successfully hosted its Orientation 2026, bringing the IMIG family together for a day of connection, recognition, and celebration. The session highlighted the vision and direction of IMIG-SMC while uniting its Executive Team, members, and esteemed faculty.

The occasion was honoured by the presence of Prof. Dr. Ambreen Usmani, Principal SMC; Dr. Nazish Jaffar, Vice Principal SMC; Prof. Dr. Iqbal Afridi; and Dr. Fatima Abid, whose presence and encouragement added great value to the celebration. We were also privileged to have our Patron-in-Chief, Dr. Urooj Lal Rehman, along with video messages from Dr. Saba Hasan, President-Elect of ACP, and Dr. Jabeen Fayyaz, President of the International Pediatric Simulation Society, whose commitment to IMIG made the gathering even more meaningful.

مقررین نے اس بات پر زور دیا کہ سڑک پر معمولی سی بے احتیاطی بھی کسی قیمتی انسانی جان کے ضیاع کا سبب بن سکتی ہے، لہٰذا محفوظ ڈرائیونگ، ٹریفک قوانین کی پابندی اور سڑک پر موجود دیگر افراد کے حقوق کا خیال رکھنا ہر شہری کی مشترکہ ذمہ داری ہے۔
