🚨 “Psychologists BANNED in Pakistan?”
👉 Yes… but also NO. Read this before you panic.
💥 The Truth (Latest Update):
The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has declared:
❌ Clinical practice by psychologists, pharmacists & dental technicians = illegal (in a medical sense)
✔️ Only MBBS/BDS doctors can:
• Diagnose medical conditions
• Prescribe medications
• Perform medical treatment
👉 Simple formula:
Medical Diagnosis + Medicines = Doctors ONLY
⚠️ But here’s the MOST IMPORTANT part people are missing:
This decision is about “medical/allopathic practice”
👉 NOT the entire field of psychology
🧠 What Psychologists can STILL do (100% legal):
✔️ Psychological Assessment (IQ, personality, clinical testing)
✔️ Psychotherapy (CBT, REBT, Counseling)
✔️ Behavioral interventions & case formulation
✔️ DSM-based psychological diagnosis
👉 These are Mental Health Services, NOT Medical Treatment
🚫 What Psychologists are NOW restricted from:
❌ Prescribing psychiatric medications
❌ Acting as medical doctors
❌ Running clinics as “medical practitioners”
🤯 So why all this confusion?
Because Pakistan has a major gap:
• Psychiatrists → Licensed by PMDC
• Psychologists → ❌ No strong national licensing body
👉 PMDC is trying to control quackery in medical treatment NOT psychotherapy
🔥 Reality Check:
This is NOT a ban on psychologists.
👉 It’s a restriction on psychologists acting like doctors
🎯 BOTTOM LINE:
✔️ YES: Psychologists cannot prescribe medicines or do medical diagnosis
❌ NO: Psychology practice is NOT banned
⚠️ REAL ISSUE: No proper licensing system for psychologists in Pakistan
💬 Now YOU decide:
Should Pakistan establish a Psychology Council for proper licensing?
