PHC raids 2,142 outlets, locks down 589 quacks’ centres
LAHORE – The Punjab Healthcare Commission (PHC), as part of its continuing campaign against quackery and unlawful medical practice, has sealed 589 illegal treatment centres in the last four weeks.
During this period, the Commission’s Anti-Quackery Department carried out 2,142 visits to suspected outlets, while 1,240 premises were marked for surveillance and 151 were found shut, shifted to other locations or converted into other businesses.
The enforcement activity was undertaken in line with the Commission’s mandate to protect patients from unsafe, unqualified and unregulated treatment. An intensified operation in southern Punjab was carried out, with a special focus on Tehsil Taunsa of District Dera Ghazi Khan. The teams conducted 1,450 visits, sealed 238 illegal centres and placed 414 premises under surveillance. Lahore recorded the second-highest volume of action, where 385 visits resulted in the sealing of 149 illegal outlets. Other noteworthy actions were also taken in Sheikhupura, where 47 centres were sealed after 154 visits, Okara 47 illegal outlets were closed following 111 visits, Kasur 27, Faisalabad 25, and Rawalpindi where 24 illegal facilities were shut down.
Citizens have been urged to seek treatment only from qualified healthcare professionals working at PHC-registered healthcare establishments and to report suspected quackery to the Commission. The PHC reiterates that its anti-quackery campaign will continue in coordination with district administrations and relevant authorities to safeguard public interest and promote safe healthcare delivery.
Overall, the Commission has so far sealed 70,081 illegal centres following 249,349 visits, while over 30,663 quacks have either quit quackery or abandoned their illegal outlets.
