"I was born in a village near Mandi bahauddin. My parents weren't educated. My mother never went to school. She had 6 sons. 3 of them are doctors today, and the rest engineers and bureaucrats. I went to a school under a tree, where whenever it rained, the school was called off. My father sent me to Central Model School, Lahore, where I secured 1st position in matriculation. Then I went to Government College University and topped there too for which I was interviewed by a newspaper. In my interview, I told them I'd be a surgeon before even getting into this medical school. I knew I had to be a surgeon. In KEMU, I was declared the best graduate securing 1st position in all the professionals. From 1970 to 1998 I've always topped in my life.
In early childhood, my father was admitted and operated in this very ward, the North Surgical Ward by Prof. Ameer-uddin. This was when I found my inspiration to become a surgeon.
I'm a very happy man retiring. There have been a few low points but I'm happy. I don't have a heart ache but I do have a heart burn for the incomplete Surgical Tower that remains neglected. If it had been completed, no Pakistani would have to travel abroad for their surgeries.
Finally, I believe success is 90% "perspiration" and just 10% inspiration. I believe if I can succeed in this city from where I came, everyone else can."
