Prof Dr Ahmad Khan has officially taken charge as the first full-time appointed Dean of the Medical Teaching Institution (MTI) Bacha Khan Dental College (BKDC), marking a significant milestone for the institution's healthcare leadership and academic growth.

He is the first to got appointed as the Dean after the BKDC received official recognition as a College.

Operational Performance and Ongoing Progress of SSP Programme Reviewed

HD Appreciates services provided to patients by SSP

Appreciating the services provided by the Sehat Sahulat Plus (SSP) secretariat to patient and provision of free healthcare services under the health insurance scheme, Hospital Director Brigadier (Retd) Dr. Muhammad Abrar Khan directed establishment of a dedicated SSP admission counter for Gynaecology patients to facilitate beneficiaries and improve the admission process.

He appreciated the services and issued the directives while chairing a meeting regarding the operational performance and ongoing progress of the SSP held at the Conference Room here on Monday.

Medical Director Prof Dr Muhammad Said, Chairperson Medical and Allied Associate Prof Dr Muhammad Abbas, Chairman Medical and Allied Prof Dr Muhammad Hussain, Chairman Paeds Department Prof Dr Muhammad Qasim Khan, Chairperson Gynae and Obstetrics AP Dr Naila, Associate Prof Dr Shafqat Ali Shah, Manager Administration and Facility Dr Rohail Hayat, In-charge SSP Pharmacy Aziz and Niaz were present in the meeting.

Dr. Kamran Israr, Focal Person for the SSP Programme, delivered a detailed briefing on the current status of the programme and the administrative reforms introduced since assuming charge. He informed the forum that a total of 232,000 patients have received treatment through the SSP Programme from 2017 to July 2026.

Highlighting the operational improvements introduced under his leadership, Dr. Kamran Israr stated that the staff strength dedicated to uploading patient files has been increased to accelerate processing and clear the backlog. He further explained that six dedicated sections have been established within SSP to streamline the handling of claims, including fresh claims, objected files, scanning, and uploading of both fresh and objected cases.

Providing an update on daily operations, he stated that approximately 230 new patients are admitted daily under the programme, with up to 180 patients discharged each day. In addition, approximately 550–600 patient claim files are scanning and uploading daily to the State Life Insurance Corporation (SLIC) for processing.

Dr. Kamran Israr also briefed the forum on patient care and pharmacy services. He stated that strict quality standards are being maintained to ensure the provision of high-quality medicines to SSP beneficiaries. He added that a Formulary Committee is responsible for selecting medicines for the SSP pharmacy.

Hospital Director Brigadier (Retd.) Dr. Muhammad Abrar Khan reviewed the existing workflow and directed that the number of personnel assigned to uploading SSP claims be further increased to expedite claim processing. He also announced the formation of a collaborative team comprising ward clerks, cashiers, and SSP representatives to ensure seamless coordination, proper documentation, and timely claim processing.

To further facilitate patients and streamline documentation, the forum decided that a dedicated focal person from each ward would be officially nominated and authorized to sign patient-related SSP documents and claims.

Furthermore, the Hospital Director noted that a filter OPD for Gynaecology patients and an internal SSP pharmacy within the Gynaecology Department are already being established to further enhance service delivery and facilitate patients.

ND holds 1st official meeting with all Unit In-Charge nurses

Says sets patient care utmost priority

Announces zero-tolerance approach towards patient safety, quality of care

The newly appointed Nursing Director Noor Zada held first official meeting with all Unit In-Charge Nurses to outline core administrative policies, clinical standards and professional protocols designed to enhance healthcare delivery across MMC.

ND Noor Zada said that that patient care is the foremost priority and announced a strict zero-tolerance approach regarding any compromise on patient safety, quality of care or established nursing standards.

He directed that all staff must deal patients and their attendants politely and with respect, ensuring they are properly guided through hospital procedures and care plans.

To reinforce clinical safety, he instructed the nursing staff to remain vigilant in identifying and immediately reporting any risks, incidents or unsafe practices. Special emphasis was placed on emergency preparedness, he directed attending emergency patients instantly in accordance with institutional protocols and avoiding any unnecessary delays in clinical assessment, intervention, escalation, or referral.

Furthermore, he said that unit In-Charges will be responsible for ensuring that crash carts and all emergency equipment are maintained, fully equipped, regularly checked, sealed and kept ready for immediate deployment all the times.

Addressing institutional discipline and workflow continuity, the Nursing Director mandated that comprehensive handovers and takeovers between shifts be strictly observed to communicate all critical patient information, treatment plans, pending investigations and risk factors. He also directed for strict compliance with official duty timings, stating that late arrivals and early departures are unacceptable.

The ND made it mandatory for all employees, trainees and students to visibly wear their official identification cards while on duty.
He directed following of the protocols regarding privacy and confidentiality to safeguard patient dignity, adding that patient files never be left openly unattended and that unauthorized individuals are barred from accessing medical records.

In line with this, Unit In-Charges were tasked with ensuring that no unauthorized students or persons enter or operate within clinical areas.
Additionally, he warned against use of mobile phones during duty hours.

On the academic and professional development front, the ND announced regular training programs, skill development initiatives and continuous education through the Nursing Education System for all personnel, including trainee staff. He assigned the Unit In-Charges assigned the responsibility of identifying specific training needs and ensuring active staff participation.

Concluding the meeting, the Nursing Director issued a final directive holding all Unit In-Charges accountable for implementing these instructions within their respective departments, closely monitoring compliance and immediately reporting any serious violations to the Nursing Director's office to uphold the highest standards of dignity, discipline and professional responsibility.

Assigning new tasks and reviewing the progress made on the previous ones, Hospital Director (HD) Brigadier Retd Muhammad Abrar Khan directed that all administrative decisions and directives issued must be implemented in letter and spirit to bring steady but continuous improvement in the hospital operations to the benefit of patients.

He assigned the tasks and expressed the views while chairing the weekly reviews meeting held in the Conference Room here.

The meeting commenced with HD congratulating the newly appointed Nursing Director Noor Zada on assuming charge of his office.

Highlighting that the selection was well-deserved, the HD expressed confidence that the new Nursing Director will leverage his extensive experience to bring tangible improvements to patient care.

Medical Director Prof. Dr. Muhammad Said pointed out several critical areas requiring immediate administrative attention. He noted that vehicles parked on road leading to the Accident & Emergency (A&E) were obstructing patient flow into the critical station. Additional concerns raised included nursing trainees failing to wear identification cards, late start to cleaning routines by the morning janitorial shift, particularly within the A&E department and stretchers and wheelchairs standing in corridors instead of being transported back into A&E.

Furthermore, he raised the issue of delay in operationalizing the Cath Lab due to roof seepage and leakage and delay in launching the Filter OPD.

Addressing these concerns, the Hospital Director directed a strict ban on parking vehicles in front of the OPD and A&E zones. He directed the immediate removal and transfer of damaged furniture to the maintenance or scraped material site. Reaffirming the hospital’s core standards, he said that a zero tolerance approach is adopted to ensure proper cleanliness across the hospital.
The Nursing Director was instructed to ensure that all nursing students strictly display their identification cards at all times.

The HD remarked that cooperation from all departments is vital, as effective hospital management relies entirely on teamwork.
Reflecting on recent progress, the HD acknowledged a noticeable improvement in clearing pathways leading to the OPD and A&E, adding that additional efforts are required to clear remaining clutter. He reiterated that teamwork remains essential for driving continuous improvement.

During the session, the Manager Works assured that work on the Filter OPD will commence shortly. Concluding the meeting, the HD issued strict directives to prioritize comprehensive building maintenance, clear open drainages, and remove vegetation growing on walls and rooftops to prevent long-term structural damage to the hospital facility.

Hospital leadership reviewed operations, infrastructure and future enhancements of the Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD) in a meeting held in the Conference Room of MMC.

The session was aimed to evaluate current sterilization protocols, streamline equipment management and reinforce stringent infection control measures across surgical units.

Hospital Director Brigadier retd Dr Muhammad Abrar Khan chaired the meeting. Medical Director Prof Dr Muhammad Said, Nursing Director Noor Zada, Manager Administration and Facility Dr Rohail Hayat, DHD Dr Kamran Israr, Manager IT Mohsin Ali, Manager Accident and Emergency Dr Qasim Khan, Manager Procurement Shah Nawaz, Manager Works Ahmad, etc attended the meeting.

Manager CSSD Ameer Taimur provided a detailed overview of the department’s daily workflow, technical capacity and staff etc. He highlighted that the department is equipped with advanced, high-quality Sweden-made autoclaves, ensuring rigorous sterilisation standards.
He said that CSSD partitioned into three designated zones including dirty, clean and sterile sections.

Addressing the department's administrative and operational framework, Hospital Director Brigadier (Retd) Dr. Muhammad Abrar Khan announced that staff members operating within each specific CSSD zone will adhere to distinct dress codes. Furthermore, he said that uniforms will feature the CSSD designation clearly lettered on the jackets to maintain professional identification and uphold internal security protocols.

To enhance procedural safety in specialised diagnostics, the administration directed the management to formulate a comprehensive endoscope sterilisation plan, which includes arranging a dedicated autoclave exclusively for endoscopes.

Emphasizing the importance of hygiene, the forum issued instructions to ensure systematic and rigorous Operation Theatre (OT) fumigation to effectively control healthcare-associated infections. Under the new schedule, the Main OT will undergo mandatory fumigation on a weekly basis, while the Gynae and Accident & Emergency (A&E) OTs will be fumigated on an need basis.

HD assured that all operational and logistical challenges faced by the CSSD will be addressed and resolved on a priority basis. Concurrently, the CSSD Manager was instructed to ensure the systematic handover of OT instruments exclusively to designated personnel.
It was also decided that the issuance of all medical and surgical instruments will henceforth be processed and tracked strictly through the HHMIS.

Gastroenterology hosts fortnightly CPC on Chronic Pancreatitis

The Gastroenterology Department hosted fortnightly Clinico-Pathological Conference (CPC) at the auditorium of BKMC.

The academic session was dedicated to a comprehensive discussion on the medical condition "Chronic Pancreatitis."

The scientific session was presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Faheem Safi, who delivered an extensive overview of chronic pancreatitis.

During his presentation, he detailed the underlying causes, clinical signs and symptoms, diagnostic modalities, treatment protocols, indications, and potential complications associated with the disease.

The conference was attended by a large gathering of distinguished faculty members and postgraduate trainees, including Professor Dr. Mohtasim Billah, Associate Professor Dr. Shah Zeb, Assistant Professor Dr. Aizaz Jamal, Assistant Professor Dr. Farman Ullah, Dr. Naeem and Assistant Professor Dr. Saad Ali Shah, alongside other medical professionals.

Hospital management directs digitization and reorganization of Medical Records

A high-level meeting focusing on the management, retention and digitization of hospital medical records was held to streamline administrative processes, enhance data security and transition toward a sustainable paperless environment.

The session begun with a detailed presentation by Manager Quality Assurance Hameed Zeb, who elaborated on the fundamental purposes, and regulatory frameworks governing medical records. He outlined specific retention protocols and period for maintaining medical record.

Furthermore, he clarified that essential clinical records must be preserved for up to seven years, while medico-legal cases require extended retention periods in compliance with legal obligations. He also updated the forum on the preliminary segregation efforts completed thus far.

Hospital Director (HD) stressed the urgent need for transition of all medical records into a centralized, computerized system. Highlighting that physical records are currently scattered across various locations and susceptible to environmental damage, the HD stressed that digitization is critical for modern healthcare delivery.

Additionally, the HD instructed that obsolete or scrapped materials be auctioned off on a needs-basis rather than adhering to rigid annual schedules and reiterated that all hospital entries must be systematically logged into the Hospital Management Information System (HMIS).

Nursing Director Noor Zada informed the participants that the initial segregation of patient files has already been successfully concluded.
Building on this progress, the HD said that a specialized Board of Doctors will be formulated to oversee the lawful and systematic discarding of outdated records.

As an immediate measure, all existing medical records are to be relocated to a designated secure storage area. Staff have been directed to further segregate these files to retain only vital documents before they are transferred to a new store, where they will eventually be reviewed and discarded on a case-by-case basis based on clinical and operational importance.

The forum also agreed on the necessity of minimizing physical patient charts. The meeting agreed that all consultants must admit patients strictly under their own names to ensure accountability and accurate record-keeping.

تدریسی اسپتال مردان میڈیکل کمپلیکس اور بینظیر بھٹو چلڈرن اسپتال کی شعبہ حادثات اور او پی ڈی میں ماہ جولائی کے دوران مجموعی طور پر 112,045 مریضوں کو طبی سہولیات فراہم کی گئیں۔

تفصیلات کے مطابق دونوں اسپتالوں کی جاری کردہ ماہانہ کارکردگی رپورٹ کے مطابق ماہ جون میں مردان میڈیکل کمپلیکس کی شعبہ حادثات میں 40,104 جبکہ او پی ڈی میں 56,893 مریضوں کو طبی سہولیات فراہم کی گئیں۔ اسی طرح بینظیر بھٹو چلڈرن ہسپتال کی شعبہ حادثات میں 8,865 جبکہ او پی ڈی میں 6,183 بچوں کو طبی سہولیات فراہم کی گئیں۔

کارکردگی رپورٹ کے مطابق مردان میڈیکل کمپلیکس میں جن افراد کا معائینہ کیا گیا ان میں 7,267 مریضوں کو مردان میڈیکل کمپلیکس جبکہ بینظیر بھٹو چلڈرن ہسپتال میں 471 بچوں کو مزید علاج اور تشخیص کی غرض سے مختلف شعبوں میں داخل کیا گیا۔داخل مریضوں میں 62 فیصد مریضوں کو صحت کارڈ کے ذریعے مفت علاج معالجے کی سہولیات فراہم کی گئیں۔ اسی طرح اسپتال میں 145,686 مختلف نوعیت کے لیبارٹری ٹسٹ کیئے گئے جبکہ 32,913 مریضوں کے ایکسرے، سٹی سکین و الٹراساونڈز، ایم آر آئی اور فلوروسکوپی کیئے گئے۔رپورٹ کے مطابق پچھلے ماہ دونوں ہسپتالوں میں 1,168 بڑی سرجریز اور 434 مائنر سرجریز اور پروسیجرز کیئے گئے۔ اس کے علاوہ ہسپتال میں 956 بچوں کی پیدائش بھی ہوئی۔ ہسپتال میں پچھلے ماہ میں 1,389 ڈائیلاسسز بھی کیئے گئے۔ ہسپتال میں اموات کی تعداد 207 رہی۔

اسی طرح 15,548 مریضوں نےآئی بی پی کا رخ کیا۔ آئی نی پی میں 220 بڑی جبکہ 17 مائنر سرجریز کیئے گئے۔

اسپتال انتظامیہ نے تمام طبی و معاون عملے کے افراد کو اپنی ذمہ داریاں احسن طریقے سے انجام دینے پر ان کو خراج تحسین پیش کیا اور زیادہ سے زیادہ افراد کو بہترین طبی سہولیات فراہم کرنے کے عظم کا اظہار کرتے ہوئے بہتر سے بہتر طبی سہولیات کی فراہمی کو یقینی بنانے کیلئے تمام تر ضروری وسائل بروئے کار لانے کا اعادہ کیا۔
