MD directs discipline/ punctuality to provide timely/quality consultations & healthcare services to patients

An urgent high-level meeting was held under the chairmanship of Medical Director Prof. Dr. Muhammad Said to address critical clinical operational matters and ensure optimal healthcare services to patients.

The meeting, held in the MMC Conference Room, was attended by all Clinical Chairpersons and Heads of Departments.

During the session, the MD directed for strict discipline and complete punctuality. He directed ensuring biometric attendance for all faculty members and hospital personnel to ensure presence of staff and accountability. The MD said that official working hours are from 08:00 AM to 04:00 PM, adding that staff availability during official hours directly impacts overall hospital efficiency and patient satisfaction. The MD directed strict adherence to official duty timing.

Special attention was directed toward the timely beginning of outpatient department services. The department heads were instructed to ensure that patient consultations begin strictly on schedule according to prescribed OPD timings to reduce waiting times for visiting patients.

The meeting also addressed the issue of extended waiting lists for surgeries in certain clinical departments, with the chair directing the implementation of immediate, proactive measures to streamline patient flow and accelerate delivery of healthcare.

Regarding surgical services, the chair stressed the importance of strictly observing operation theatre schedules to maximize the efficient utilization of available facilities and minimize delays in surgical procedures.

For the benefit of patients, it was decided to divide the neurosurgery team in two A and B and increase their OT days to minimize delays in surgical procedures and resolve the issue of long waiting lists for surgeries.

Furthermore, the meeting thoroughly evaluated the functioning and operational performance of Institutional Based Private Practice and outlined strategies to strengthen its effectiveness for the benefit of both patients and clinicians.

Concluding the meeting, Medical Director Prof. Dr. Muhammad Said issued clear directives to all Clinical Chairpersons and Heads of Departments to ensure full compliance with all discussed matters and decision taken to facilitate patients and uphold the highest standards of healthcare delivery at hospital.

HD/MD conducts hospital round

Directs infrastructure overhaul & service upgrade

Hospital Director Brigadier (Retd) Dr. Muhammad Abrar Khan and Medical Director Professor Dr. Muhammad Said conducted an extensive inspection round of various hospital departments and facilities to evaluate infrastructure, patient care services, attendant amenities and overall operational readiness.

They assessed multiple operational areas and issued a series of directives to improve facility management, safety protocols and healthcare delivery.

During the visit, they inspected the Gynecology A and B wards, Labor Room, Nursery Ward, Medical Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Institutional Based Practice (IBP) Medical Ward, Private Rooms and Cath Lab.

They were accompanied by key administrative and operational personnel, including Manager Administration and Facility Dr. Rohail Hayat, Deputy Hospital Director Dr Kamran Israr, Assistant Manager Admin Asif, Assistant Manager Facility Arsalan, along with other relevant officers.

To maintain a clean and welcoming environment for patients and visitors, the Hospital Director directed facility staff to immediately undertake grounds maintenance, including cutting overgrown grass in the lawns and clearing wild growth. Administrative staff were instructed to address minor cosmetic repairs by repainting damaged wall surfaces and remove notices displayed on walls and doors.

Regarding internal infrastructure, the Hospital Director ordered a complete overhauling of the main corridor connecting the IBP Medical Ward to the Labor Room. For patient care enhancement within the IBP Medical Ward, directives were issued to supply patient monitors and ensure cleanliness and maintenance of all attached washrooms.

The administration inspected the Medical ICU, where the Hospital Director expressed appreciation for the unit's upkeep and the high standard of critical care provided to patients. To strengthen safety and emergency preparedness, he instructed the engineering team to install dedicated emergency exit stairs for the Medical ICU to enable rapid evacuation in case of an emergency.

Additionally, the leadership reviewed the facility's private rooms, announcing that a comprehensive renovation plan was been chalked out with ex*****on set to commence in near future.
In the Cath Lab, the directors lauded the specialized cardiac care services rendered to patients and directed the administrative team to implement full digitization of the unit’s inventory and stock management systems.

HD Brig Retd Dr Muhammad Abrar Khan inspects key Depts

Directs speedy digitization and infrastructure improvements

Hospital Director Brig Retd Dr Muhammad Abrar Khan conducted an extensive inspection visit to key departments of the Mardan Medical Complex and issued directives aimed to further streamlining hospital operations, enhance patient care services and accelerate digital transformation initiatives.

During the visit, the Hospital Director conducted thorough inspections of the Outpatient Department (OPD), Pathology Department and the Accident and Emergency (A&E) Department. He was accompanied by Manager IT Mohsin Ali, Manager Works Pir Ahmad, Manager OPD Asif Khan, Director Works Ijaz, Assistant Manager Administration Asif and other concerned hospital officials.

Expressing the hospital administration’s commitment to promoting a paperless environment, Brig Retd Dr Muhammad Abrar Khan highlighted that the OPD is undergoing complete digitization to secure and maintain patient medical records electronically. To support this digital initiative, he directed the IT Department to arrange and deploy computer systems to the counters situated outside various OPD clinics without delay.

As part of the visit, the Hospital Director reviewed the newly constructed structure designated for phlebotomists, instructing the concerned team to expedite and complete all remaining work promptly. While inspecting various sections of the Pathology Department, he engaged directly with operational staff regarding daily workflows, ordering strict adherence to cleanliness standards and the immediate repair or replacement of damaged furniture.

During his inspection of the Accident and Emergency Department, Manager A&E Dr Qasim Khan provided a detailed briefing regarding ongoing emergency response readiness, operational workflows and ongoing renovation efforts. Dr Qasim informed the Hospital Director that the department fully maintains patient records, clinical care details, treatment plans, stay durations and medication histories through the Hospital Management Information System (HMIS).

He further detailed the active triage protocol, which systematically categorizes incoming patients according to the severity of their conditions to ensure swift diversion to appropriate treatment areas.

Following the review of HMIS implementation and digital record integration across departments, Brig Retd Dr Muhammad Abrar Khan reiterated the administration’s firm resolve to deliver swift, standardized and high-quality healthcare services to every patient visiting the institute.

Specialized training on Crash cart and Defibrillator arranged for incharge nurses

Under the continuous professional development initiatives of the Nursing Education System, a comprehensive training session on Crash Cart Management and Defibrillator Operation was organized for incharge nurses at Mardan Medical Complex (MMC).

The session took place at the CPC Hall located in the Administration Block of the hospital, drawing active participation from nursing leaders representing various clinical departments.

The primary objective of the training program was to strengthen emergency response protocols and ensure high standards of critical care patient management across all wards and units of the hospital.

Recognizing the vital role incharge nurses play during cardiac emergencies and life-threatening situations, the curriculum focused on equipping participants with advanced hands-on technical competencies and standardized emergency workflows.

During the session, the instructor gave detalis about rapid deployment and contents of a crash cart, including essential emergency medications, airway management gear and resuscitation supplies. Particular emphasis was placed on maintaining cart readiness, routine inventory verification and prompt restocking after emergency interventions.

In addition to crash cart management, the session included the instruction on defibrillator operation, covering rapid identification of shockable rhythms, safe pad placement, synchronization and post-resuscitation monitoring procedures.

Through interactive exercises, participants practiced coordinated emergency responses designed to minimize critical delay times during life-threatening patient events.

Hospital Director Brig. (Retd.) Dr. Muhammad Abrar Khan chaired a comprehensive weekly review meeting in the Conference Room of Mardan Medical Complex (MMC).

The meeting reviewed institutional progress, assessed ongoing projects and issued directives to strengthen administrative discipline across all departments.

The meeting was attended by Nursing Director Noor Zada, Director Finance Syed Aamir Jamal, Manager Administration and Facility Dr. Rohail Hayat, Manager IT Mohsin Ali, Manager Accident and Emergency Dr. Qasim Khan, along with other key department managers and administrative officers.

During the session, the Hospital Director issued strict instructions regarding administrative discipline and staff attendance, directing that all personnel must obtain prior permission before leaving their duty stations or availing leave.

He underscored the necessity of strict adherence to institutional protocols and directed that all administrative and operational orders must be executed on time without any delay.

To ensure efficient resource management and streamlin operations, the Hospital Director formulated a special committee comprising representatives from the Works Department, Procurement and Pharmacy incharges.

This committee has been tasked with holding regular meetings to continuously assess available resources and systematically prioritize pending work and procurement processes.

Furthermore, the Works Department was directed to thoroughly review the list of all approved and ongoing development projects within the hospital premises and regularly submit progress updates to the administration.

In addition to project monitoring, the Hospital Director specifically instructed the technical teams to inspect and promptly resolve the drainage issues in the Accident and Emergency Department as well as other affected areas of the hospital to maintain high sanitary standards and smooth patient care operations.

AP Dr Saif Ullah appointed new PGME Dean BKDC

Assistant Professor Dr. Saif Ullah is appointed as the Associate Dean Postgraduate (PGME) for BKDC MTI Mardan on Friday.

A formal notification regarding his appointment was issued by the Dean of BKDC Prof. Dr. Ahmad Khan.

The appointment letter was officially handed over to Dr. Saif Ullah in a ceremony held at the Dean's Office, where the Head of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Department Prof. Dr. Sartaj Khan was also present.

On this occasion, Prof. Dr. Ahmad Khan congratulated Dr. Saif Ullah on his new role, expressing confidence that he will perform his duties with dedication and use his best abilities to elevate and strengthen postgraduate training at BKDC.

Dr. Saif Ullah serves as an Assistant Professor in the Oral Maxillofacial Surgery Department and has been associated with the institution for a long time.

Following his appointment, he expressed his gratitude to the Dean BKDC for entrusting him with this important responsibility and vowed to meet the expectations of the management.

Workshop for newly inducted PGs arranged on Resuscitation

Session serves as pre-conference workshop of PIMA biannual Conference to be held in Peshawar

Expert at a pre-conference workshop said that 39 out of 1,000 newborn die in Pakistan in live births, adding 21 percent of which die due to asphyxia.

They said that that mortality rate due to asphyxia can be brought down by evaluating and recognizing signs of asphyxia early and initiating the resuscitation for which the first minute is regarded as the golden minute.

President Mardan Chapter of Pakistan Islamic Medical Association (PIMA) Assistant Prof Dr Naila has organized the event as pre-conference workshop of PIMA biannual Conference to be held on 17th and 18th October next.

The workshop was oragized for the newly inducted post graduate residents to enhance their skills and knowledge to recognize and carry out resuscitation in due to time to save neonatal lives. Chairman Paediartic Department Prof Dr Muhammad Qasim Khan were among the attendees.

Assistant Prof Dr Khalil Ahmad was the keynote speaker and he delivered a comprehensive lecture on Neonatal Resuscitation, resuscitation, its relevance, Resuscitation steps etc. He said that initiating resuscitation is the primary responsibility of a Neonatologist to resuscitate neonate, adding if not available, then its become pediatrician responsibility.

He said that resuscitation is very useful in reducing newborn mortality rate. He said that according to a 2023 survey 70 percent of deliveries are done in hospital while 68 percent of births are attended by skilled attendants, meaning 30 of birth happens outside proper setup while 32 percent delivers are handled by unskilled attendants, which increases the risk of asphyxia and Neonatal Mortality.

The experts said that according to 2015 figures, in Pakistan major causes of Newborn Deaths are complications of preterm births (39%), severe infection (26%), Intrapartum related/asphyxia 20.9 % while 5.8 death are caused by congenital.
He said that Neonatal Resuscitation is a series of actions, used to assist newborn babies who have difficulty with making the physiological 'transition' from intrauterine to extra uterine life.

He guided the participants through a systematic approach, progressing from initial routine newborn care to advanced emergency interventions. He demonstrated how to assess whether a newborn is breathing and crying immediately after delivery and how to stabilize infants who fail to transition smoothly.

The training covered essential resuscitation protocols, including providing stimulation, positioning to clear and maintain an open airway, managing labored or difficult breathing, performing gentle suctioning, initiating positive pressure ventilation and chest compressions, and executing appropriate emergency actions if these initial steps fail.

Later, a hands-on session was held where the participants applied the knowledge and skills they acquired during the workshop.

Mardan Medical Complex (MMC) has further expanded its specialized healthcare services with the official inauguration of Institutional Based Private Practice (IBP) clinics for two senior consultants including Medical Specialist Assistant Professor Dr. Ishtiaq Ahmad and General Surgeon Assistant Professor Dr. Bayazeed.

A formal inauguration ceremony was held in the OPD Block of MMC to mark the opening of the new private clinics. The cake-cutting ceremony was attended by hospital administration, department managers, and medical staff.
