New York: A significant development has emerged to promote medical education, personal development, and professional training in Pakistan, under which opportunities for education, training, and employment will be provided to Pakistani nurses and other medical professionals in the United States.

In this regard, the American Pakistan Education Foundation, a subsidiary of the American Pakistan Public Affairs Committee, and the Pakistan Education Foundation are signing a memorandum of understanding today in New York.

The memorandum of understanding will provide a comprehensive framework for cooperation between the two institutions. Under this framework, Pakistan will provide a comprehensive framework for cooperation between the two institutions to meet the educational, professional, training, certification, and professional eligibility requirements of medical professionals from Pakistan, as well as to provide suitable pathways for professional opportunities in the United States.

Through this agreement, efforts will also be made to promote relations and partnerships with U.S. health and educational institutions.

The American Pakistan Education Foundation is a non-profit organization established in the United States, working on various community-related projects, including education, personal development, professional development, and increase in professional readiness in Pakistan and the U.S.

In a groundbreaking medical breakthrough, U.S. scientists have developed a universal cancer vaccine designed to train the immune system to recognise and attack all forms of cancer. Unlike traditional treatments that target specific tumour types, this revolutionary vaccine works by teaching immune cells to spot common markers found on nearly every cancer cell. Once primed, the immune system can seek out and destroy cancer anywhere in the body.
Early trials have shown promising results, with researchers reporting powerful immune responses and minimal side effects. Experts believe this innovation could transform cancer care, offering a safer and more effective alternative to chemotherapy and radiation. If further studies confirm its success, this vaccine could become one of the most significant medical advances of the century.
Doctors hope that in the future, this universal cancer vaccine will be used both for prevention and treatment, stopping cancer before it spreads and saving millions of lives worldwide. This marks a huge leap toward the ultimate goal of turning cancer into a fully curable disease.

Researchers have 3D printed an artificial cornea that mimics human tissue.

In a significant leap for regenerative medicine, a joint research team from POSTECH and Kyungpook National University has developed a 3D-printed artificial cornea that could solve the chronic shortage of donor organs.

Unlike previous synthetic versions that often struggled with cloudiness or biocompatibility issues, this new technology uses a specialized "bio-ink" derived from real corneal tissue and stem cells.

By meticulously controlling the friction and pressure during the printing process—a phenomenon known as shear stress—the team successfully replicated the delicate, lattice-like collagen structure that allows the human eye to remain transparent while protecting the pupil.

The results are more than just theoretical; the team has already successfully transplanted these bio-printed corneas into animal models. Within just four weeks, the implants integrated seamlessly and achieved a level of clarity nearly identical to a natural human cornea. With the average wait time for a transplant currently exceeding six years in many regions, this innovation offers a scalable, safe, and effective alternative to human donor tissue. As the team moves toward commercialization, this breakthrough marks a pivotal moment in the fight against corneal blindness, promising to restore sight to millions of patients worldwide.

A BBC Eye undercover investigation released on April 15, 2026, has exposed a devastating healthcare crisis at Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) Hospital in Taunsa, Pakistan.

The investigation confirms that between November 2024 and October 2025, at least 331 children tested positive for HIV, with the vast majority of cases linked to unsafe injection practices at the government-run facility.

The probe, which included 32 hours of covert filming, captured hospital staff repeatedly reusing syringes on multi-dose medicine vials—a practice that can contaminate an entire batch of medication and infect multiple patients.

In more than half of the 331 cases, "contaminated needles" were officially listed as the likely mode of transmission.

Crucially, testing of 97 affected families revealed that only four mothers were HIV-positive, largely ruling out mother-to-child transmission as the cause of the outbreak.
