2 years of efforts by SMBZAN ICQ have finally paid off! Greenline Bus Service started for our institute!

Heartfelt gratitude to the Government of Balochistan for allocating a bus for this much needed and critical route. Hamare mareez khush to hum khush!

The initiative will not only improve patient access to the only Cardiology institute of the province offering state-of-the-art comprehensive 24/7 services, but will also significantly ease the financial burden of poor and needy patients who previously sometimes had to pay hefty fares for reaching SMBZAN ICQ.

This is yet another milestone in our efforts to serve the beautiful people of Balochistan better!

This time, based upon patient workload and administrative requirements NICVD Paeds Cardiac Surgery and Paeds Cardiology teams visited SMBZAN ICQ separately on 17-18 April and 24-25 April 2026. This was the 28th such visit since the start of collaboration between the two great institutes.

During the visit 200 children were seen in the OPD, 22 Cath Interventions were performed and 4 Cardiac Surgeries were conducted.

A total of 5758 children have been attended to, 731 Cath Interventions performed and 134 Cardiac Surgeries conducted since the start of this initiative.

SMBZAN ICQ prides itself on being the only Cardiology Institute of Balochistan providing 24/7 comprehensive adult and paediatric cardiac services. Through collaboration with NICVD and construction of a dedicated Paediatric Cardiology Tower, we plan to take quality in cardiac healthcare for the people of Balochistan to new heights.

CEO SMBZAN ICQ Brig Asim Iftikhar hosted Dr Amin Khan Mandokhail, Director General Health, Government of Balochistan in his office on 27 April 2026.

DG Health was apprised about the efforts being made by the institute to improve the quality and range of services provided to the clientele. He appreciated the dedication, empathy and love with which the doctors and staff at SMBZAN ICQ are treating their patients.

The discussion also included other matters related to administration and HR. DG Health was appreciative of the values of discipline, equity and merit that underlied all command decisions at the institute. He also pledged to fully support ICQ efforts to retain specialised trained HR in the present recruiting milieu in the province.

The interaction ended with presentation of a souvenir to the esteemed guest.

Dr Azam Tahir, Professor of Psychology University of Balochistan and Professorial Research Scientist Pakistan Institute of Living and Learning (PILL) visited SMBZAN ICQ on 21 April 2026 and interacted with CEO Brig Asim Iftikhar. The esteemed professor introduced PILL, Global Leaders in Mental Health Research and dedictaed to promoting optimal physical and mental health in low-resource settings.

The gentleman appreciated the efforts being made by SMBZAN ICQ to provide state-of-the-art cardiology services to the people of Balochistan and expressed desire to collaborate with the institute on ACROSS (Affordable Cardiac Rehabilitation An Outreach Inter-Disciplinary Strategic Study) Research Program - A multicentre multi-country study ultimately aimed at developing a clinically feasible and cost-effective cardiac rehabilitation model for patients with a multimorbidity of heart disease and depression and / or anxiety. The study is being spearheaded by University of Glasgow and NIHR UK.

Inclusion in such a prestigious research program will put SMBZAN ICQ on the international map for medical research and allow us to reap all the benefits associated with such endeavours. Most importantly, it will help us devise a culturally and contextually applicable affordable home-based cardiac rehabilitation program for our patients and thus serve them better.

CEO expressed his gratitude to Dr Azam Tahir for his acknowledgement of SMBZAN ICQ's stature as the first and only cardiology institute of the province and one worthy of inclusion in such a prestigious study. The interaction ended with presentation of a souvenir to the esteemed professor.

Mr Muhammad Sooba Khan, Former Honourary Investment Counselor for South Korea Government of Pakistan visited SMBZAN ICQ. The gentleman is a Korean national with more than two decades of experience in international bridge building on people-to-people level and deep ingress into various government and non-government charitable organizations in South Korea involvement in funding and donations to developing countries.

He was pleasantly surprised by the presence of a state-of-the-art cardiology institute in Quetta, and was impressed by the breadth and quality of services being provided to the patients at SMBZAN ICQ. Discussion involved utilization of his expertise and ingress in South Korea for support to our great institute for improvement of sevices, including that by various NGOs. He was presented with a memento by CEO SMBZAN ICQ as a token of remembrance.

Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) is an evidence-based discipline aimed at preventing the spread of infections within healthcare settings to protect patients, staff, and visitors. It involves managing risks through hand hygiene, cleaning, and safety protocols to reduce healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) and combat antibiotic resistance.

Importance of IPC for an institution like SMBZAN ICQ cannot be overemphasised. Hence, training of our staff including physicians, nurses, paramedical and auxiliary staff in IPC protocols is accorded very high Importance.

In the same vein, a master trainers course in IPC was conducted on 3rd and 7th April 2026. Individuals selected as master trainers from all departments participated in the course. Topics including Disinfection & Sterilisation, Isolation Precautions, Healthcare Waste Management and Environmental Infection Control were discussed in detail. Participants displayed a high level of enthusiasm for the training.

As part of ongoing collaboration for provision of quality Paediatric Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery services to the people of Balochistan and capacity building at SMBZAN ICQ, 27th visit of NICVD team to SMBZAN ICQ took place from 3 to 4 April 2026.

During the visit 170 children were seen in the OPD, 15 Cath Interventions were performed and 4 Cardiac Surgeries were conducted.

This was the 27th such visit in the past 2 years. A total of 5558 children have been attended to, 709 Cath Interventions performed and 130 Cardiac Surgeries conducted since the start of this initiative.

Visit of SMBZAN ICQ – National Workshop on Balochistan (NWB) XIX

On 31 Mar, we welcomed and hosted the delegates of 19th iteration of NWB. It is a regular event that showcases our beautiful province, the efforts we are making to lift it socioeconomically and also helps to dispel misconceptions.

During the event, delegates were briefed about SMBZAN ICQ, our state-of-the-art services and future plans. Visitors asked probing and pertinent questions and were impressed not only by our cutting edge services, but also by our zeal and drive to serve our clientele better.

The delegates then visited the hospital and interacted with our staff and patients, thus helping them gain insights into the impact this institute is making in the lives of the ordinary people of Balochistan.

On 30 Mar, a group of students from College of Nursing CMH Quetta visited SMBZAN ICQ along with their instructors. The aim of the visit was to broaden their horizon and expose them to best nursing practices being exercised at our institute. Also, they were briefed about our state-of-the-art institute and cutting-edge services being provided to the people of the province.

The delegates then visited the hospital, interacted with our staff and asked questions, thus helping them gain insights into the future awaiting them as trained nurses. The students displayed unbounded enthusiasm and a will to serve the ailing humanity to the best of their abilities.
