Hypertension during pregnancy is one of the leading causes of maternal and newborn illness and death worldwide. Every year, nearly 70,000 mothers and 500,000 babies lose their lives due to complications related to hypertensive disorders of pregnancy. Many of these deaths are preventable through early diagnosis, timely treatment, and awareness.
The burden is even greater in Pakistan, where many women are unaware of the early warning signs of preeclampsia and often seek medical attention too late.
In this video, I explain the four major types of hypertension during pregnancy in simple language:
✅ Chronic Hypertension
✅ Gestational Hypertension
✅ Preeclampsia
✅ Eclampsia
You will also learn:
• What causes preeclampsia?
• Who is at the highest risk?
• Early warning signs that should never be ignored
• How preeclampsia is diagnosed
• Treatment options and when delivery becomes necessary
• How to reduce the risk during pregnancy
• Why follow up after delivery is essential
Recent guidelines from the American Heart Association (AHA) and the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) emphasize that women who develop preeclampsia remain at higher risk of hypertension, heart attack, heart failure, and stroke later in life. This makes long term cardiovascular follow up extremely important.
I hope this video helps you understand this potentially life threatening condition and enables you or your loved ones to recognize it early.
