🚨 Ebola is spreading fast in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and communities are key to stopping it.

⚠️ As of 4 August, DRC had reported 3,973 confirmed cases, 1,801 deaths and 776 recoveries. In just 24 hours, 99 new cases and 52 deaths were reported.

✅ *Uganda recently stopped its outbreak*, showing that Ebola can be contained with fast action.

*What helps most?*

🩺 Spot symptoms early and seek care quickly
📞 Follow up with people who may have been exposed
🧼 Prevent infections in health facilities
🤝 Listen to trusted community, religious, women and youth leaders
🛡️ Protect and support frontline health workers

In DRC, only 75% of contacts are currently being followed up, below the 95% target needed to find cases quickly.

💡 *Remember:* Ebola is easier to stop when people have clear information, trust health teams and ask for help early.

🚗 *Did you know?* Despite *more than 1 billion additional vehicles* hitting the world’s roads since 2011, the global road traffic death rate has *fallen by 21%*. That proves one thing: *safer roads save lives*.

💔 But the job isn’t finished. Every year, *1.16 million people* still lose their lives in road crashes, and road traffic injuries remain the *leading cause of death for children and young people aged 5–29*.

*Here’s something you can do today:*

🏍️ Wear a quality motorcycle helmet – it reduces the risk of death in a crash by more than six times.
🚶 Slow down in areas where people walk and cycle.
🚫 Never drive after drinking or using drugs.
📵 Keep your eyes off your phone and on the road.

🚴🏼‍♂️ More than *half of all road deaths* are people walking, cycling or riding motorcycles—not those inside cars. Safer roads, safer vehicles and safer choices can protect everyone.

🤱🏻 Did you know that breastfeeding can save lives and boost health, for both babies and mothers?

*Breastfeeding benefits include:*

🔹 Provides all the nutrients a baby needs for the first 6 months.
🔹 Provides antibodies that protect the child against many illnesses like diarrhoea and pneumonia.
🔹 Reduces the risk of obesity and chronic diseases in children.
🔹 Reduces the risk of disease for the mother, including breast and ovarian cancer.

💡 Additionally, breastfed children perform better on intelligence tests.

🌍 Still, only 48% of babies under 6 months are exclusively breastfed.

*WHO recommends:*

✔ Start breastfeeding within the first hour after birth.
✔ Exclusively breastfeed for 6 months.
✔ Continue breastfeeding with complementary foods up to 2 years or beyond.
