Alignment practice is very crucial to Qi Gong and Nei Gong practice, as well as, actually, as for any method of meditation.

The spine should be straight, upright. But what does that really mean? It is very subjective—what is straight and what means upright. More so, and that’s interesting, you can be straight or upright, but not aligned.

Proper alignment practice is fairly unknown to the West, it takes a sufficient amount of time to work through and establish the alignments into your physical body. In this process, your body has to undergo several serious changes and a lot of postural habits will have to shed and to leave the body.

This is a serious and dedicated work which needs knowledge, guidance, instruction, and it’s more than just a technique.

For that reasons, we dedicate a whole weekend on alignment practice. Alignment practice will teach you how to stand or sit over long periods of time without getting tired or feeling pain. More so, it will make your back healthy, your legs strong. Once you align your body, there is a surplus of energy as you can release all the unnecessary tension that you usually use to keep upright.

When you are aligned, you feel good in your body, like a fish in the water—it’s just soothing everything.

Alignment practice, last but not least, is also aligning you—yourself—not only to your body, which it does, but furthermore to your life and purpose. As the great frame for the alignment work is the alignment of Heaven, Earth, and Human.

Alignment is much more than simply “sitting or standing straight.” While “straightness” is subjective and can be achieved through force, true alignment is a precise structural state that allows the body to function without unnecessary strain.

Key Principles of Alignment

• Beyond “Straight”: One can be upright but still unaligned; true alignment requires shedding old postural habits through dedicated practice.

• Energy Efficiency: Proper alignment releases the chronic tension usually required to “hold” oneself up, resulting in a surplus of energy.

• Physical Health: This practice leads to a healthier back, stronger legs, and the ability to maintain positions for long periods without pain or fatigue.

Silence that heals. Movement that restores. ✨

Our Yang Sheng retreat in the magical Monte Orada has come to a close. It is hard to find words for what unfolded in the heart of this green valley, nestled far from human settlements and the daily rush. 🌿

This unique space and the closeness of nature became a safe haven for our personal journeys. In the embrace of the valley, where time seems to slow down, the transition through the deep teachings of Ron Timm gained exceptional depth and clarity.

The Power of Windmill Palms 🌀

Practicing the Windmill Palms form allowed us to reconnect with our bodies and energy anew. The quiet surroundings of Orada ensured that the processes sparked by Ron’s teachings could resonate fully, guiding us toward inner balance.

A heartfelt thank you to all the participants. Your openness, mindfulness, and shared energy created a space filled with support. We truly hope to meet again in this same valley next year to continue this journey together.

Sunrise, Qi, and Ancient Wisdom: Day 1 at Monte de Orada 🌅

What a way to begin. Our first day at the retreat was a deep dive into movement, stillness, and the healing traditions of the East. Here’s a look at how we spent our opening hours in the heart of Portugal.

Morning: Awakening the Body

We gathered at dawn, the air crisp and the sky painted in soft oranges, to meet the sun with Ron Timm. We focused on three foundational practices to clear the slate:

• Opening the Gate of Life: Activating our core energy.

• Paida Gong: Rhythmic patting to stimulate circulation and clear blockages.

• Fang Song: The essential art of intentional relaxation and “letting go.”

Midday: Way of life and fulfilling human potential

After a nourishing meal, we transitioned from movement to theory.

• The Five Elements: We explored the Wu Xing, learning how Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water govern our health and cycles.

• The Taiji Tu: Ron decoded the deep symbolism of the Taiji Tu, explaining the eternal dance of opposites.

• Nature’s Work: To ground these lessons, we spent rest of the the morning working with Windmill Palms, getting our hands busy and grounding ourselves in the lush landscape of Monte de Orada.

Afternoon: The Science of Healing
The energy shifted to study and restoration in the afternoon with Sebastian Zielinski.

• Moxibustion: We explored the warming, invigorating effects of burning moxa to strengthen the body’s Qi.

• TCM Lecture: Sebastian led an insightful session on the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine, bridging the gap between our morning movements and the philosophy behind them.

“The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step—or in our case, a single breath at sunrise.”

We are feeling balanced, slightly tired in the best way, and ready for what Day 2 holds. 🌿✨
