What if the treatment could remain exactly where it needs to act?

Researchers in Spain are developing a strategy based on an injectable hydrogel that forms directly inside the joint and is designed to release therapeutic substances gradually and locally.

The approach also explores an interesting feature: labeling the material so its distribution can be tracked using imaging techniques such as PET.

This is still a research-stage approach, and further studies are needed before it can be routinely used in clinical practice. However, the work shows how biomaterials, controlled drug release, and medical imaging can come together in the development of new strategies for joint diseases.

On this August 13th we have implemented the world’s first Bone Library.

The inniciative works like a traditional library: the students are able to take the models home, ensuring more contact with the study material beyond the university environment.
