Tattoos belong in galleries too. 🖤

This month, Penn State Schuylkill opened "The Art of the Tattoo", an exhibition presented by Altered Ego Tattoos (on show until 11 December). More and more universities and galleries are treating tattooing for what it is: drawing, composition, light and shadow — art that happens to live on skin.

That's how we see our realism. A portrait built from texture and expression. A Buddha sculpted in black and grey. A forest scene with depth, from the deer to the smallest tree. Each one starts as a drawing designed for one person and one body.

The Port of Funchal expects to close 2026 with a record of around 820,000 cruise passengers, with 33 calls scheduled in October alone. Lots of people discovering the island — and some want a memory that doesn't fit in a suitcase.

Our new website is live, and it starts with the island. 🌊

We wrote a guide to Madeira the way we'd explain it to a friend: 19 places, from Funchal to Porto Moniz. The ones not to miss, the famous ones, and the ones locals keep quiet about. Plus the food, the levadas, the festivals and the stories behind them.

What if a tattoo could switch on and off with light?

This week, a team at the University of Colorado Boulder presented an experimental ink that changes colour (or turns invisible) under UV and intense visible light. So far it has only been tested on silicone, and the researchers say the safety of the dyes still needs to be studied.
