Closed heart = tired face.
Here’s why, and how to break the pattern.

After heartbreak, rejection, or a childhood where you weren’t truly seen, the body learns to protect the heart. The shoulders roll in, the chest closes, the head moves forward.

Over time, this posture pulls on your neck, slows lymph flow and tightens your jaw. Your face starts to look heavy and tired, even when you sleep enough.

Swipe to see what happens in your muscles, and how we gently open them again.

Your face isn’t sagging. It’s being pulled. 🌊

Old wisdom says the throat is a hidden bridge, the place where the mind meets the body. When that bridge is tight, everything above it gets dragged down.

That’s exactly what I saw with her.

Her head tilted because her pelvis was tilted. The spine bent to compensate, one shoulder dropped, and the neck muscles on one side shortened to keep her eyes level. Over time, that pattern locked in. Neck lines deepened, the jawline melted, and the lower face grew heavy.

So I didn’t start with her face. I followed the tension from her feet up to her skull. I released the platysma, freed the hyoid and lengthened the SCM.

When the base came back to level, her neck came back to centre. And her face simply stopped being pulled down.

No filler. No threads. Just a body that remembered how to stand tall. ✨

That hump at the base of your neck didn’t come with age. It came from a pattern. And patterns can change. 👇

Your head weighs about as much as a bowling ball. When it drifts forward, the back of your neck and your shoulders have to hold it up all day. They get tight, tired and overloaded. Meanwhile, the muscles that should keep you upright, at the front of your neck and between your shoulder blades, quietly switch off.

Tight muscles pull harder. Weak ones let go. Your upper back rounds, your shoulders roll in, and where your neck meets your back, the body builds extra tissue to cope with the strain. That’s the hump.

Your breath gets squeezed too. A collapsed chest can’t open fully, so your neck starts helping you breathe and gets even tighter.

Swipe to see my client before and after her SomaFace sessions. Her head came back over her shoulders, her neck lengthened, her chest opened, and her jawline lifted with it.

Tight neck, headaches at the back of your head, a clenched jaw, shallow breathing, a tired face? You don’t have to live with it.

In SomaFace I work with face and body as one: releasing what’s been holding on too long, waking up what has switched off, and giving your breath space again.

Wake up with jaw pain or headaches? Try this before sleep.

Lie on your back in bed. Close your lips, keep your teeth slightly apart, and rest your tongue on the roof of your mouth, just behind your front teeth.

Place your fingertips on your cheeks, right where your jaw muscle is. Clench gently once to find it, then relax.

Now make slow, soft circles on the muscle for 30 seconds. Breathe slowly through your nose.

Then, keeping your tongue on the roof of your mouth, slowly open your mouth as far as is comfortable, and close it gently. Repeat 5 times.

Finish with three deep breaths, and let your jaw feel heavy and relaxed.

Do this every night. Less tension tonight, less pain in the morning.

Waking up with a puffy face, even when you eat clean?

Your face and neck hold one of the densest networks of lymph nodes in the body. When that flow slows down, fluid can sit in the tissue, and you see it as morning puffiness, a heavy jawline and tired-looking skin.

In a SomaFace session I work manually on the face, neck and cranial area to support natural lymphatic flow and release the tension that holds it back. Most clients leave feeling lighter, with a visibly calmer, more defined face.

Your jawline might be losing its shape because of a muscle in your neck 🦢

The sternocleidomastoid (SCM) attaches from behind your ear down to your collarbone and sternum — it’s one of the main muscles controlling how your head sits on your spine. When it’s chronically tight (phones, screens, stress, one-sided sleeping), it pulls the head forward and rotates it slightly, which shifts jaw alignment over time and can deepen facial asymmetry.

Because the SCM sits so close to the jaw and cranial base, releasing it doesn’t just ease neck tension — it can change how the whole lower face sits: a more level jawline, less pulling on one side, a more rested expression.

This is why myofascial and craniosacral work on the neck isn’t just “relaxation” — it’s structural. The face is held up by what’s happening in the neck and jaw, not just the skin.

Ears are not only connected to hearing.
They are directly connected to the jaw, neck, and facial tension patterns. 👂

When the ear area and surrounding tissues become tight:
• jaw pressure can increase
• bruxism and clenching may worsen
• one side of the face can start pulling more
• facial asymmetry may become more visible
• lymphatic and fluid drainage can slow down

Around the ears there are many important fascial, nervous system, and structural connections linked to the TMJ, occipital area, and neck.
That’s why sometimes, to truly relax the face, you need to start with the ears first. ✨

When the body releases deeper tension patterns, the face naturally begins to return to balance.
