You’ve probably had the same breakfast for years.
The same cup, the same toast, often eaten standing up. Most of it runs on autopilot.
A UCL study followed people as they built one new daily habit. It took a median of 66 days for the habit to become automatic.
For some people it took 18 days, for others 254.
Missing a single day made no real difference. What counted was coming back to it at the same moment, week after week.
That makes the morning a good place to start. Over the next posts, we look at how your first ritual of the day shapes your gut and your glucose, down to how your genes are expressed.
