A couple of days ago I turned 34 and boy, do I have a lot of thoughts that I’m struggling to articulate.

This past year has been one of the hardest yet. The culmination of a transformation that has been brewing quietly behind the scenes for years. All the pressure I’ve been putting on myself finally bursting to the surface. It caught me by surprise and yet - it made perfect sense. One thing is for sure, sooner or later, I can count on my body to really let me know what’s up.

It showed me the labels I no longer want to carry. Which kind of pressure is no longer worth the outcome. And where I’ve been molding myself to fit into something that ultimately does not serve me anymore.

For this next year, I wish to grip less tightly. To change my mind more often. And to keep embracing the season I’m in.

To create and put something out there is not to say “I am special”. It is to trust that I am not.

Let’s be real, this baby took a long ass time to furnish (more than a year and a half 🌝). But that’s what happens when an apartment also becomes your creative exploration and excavation of who you are through furniture.

It’s hilarious to see how different the space looks from the first idea stage. And I love that because it means that instead of just going with some preconceived notion of what this place should be, we slowly allowed it to reveal itself to us instead.

Thank you to my partner in crime Ráchel Ahuja Creative Studio - it would never be possible without your support.

When I was starting to think about how to furnish my Prague apartment, I knew I didn’t want just some copy-paste version of what I had seen elsewhere. I wanted the place to visually reflect who I am.

I’ll be honest, I was not ready for how slow such a process can be.

Together with my interior designer Ráchel Ahuja Creative Studio, who was willing to do things my way (thank you!), it took us probably a year and a half. And it’s not a big place!

There was a direction at the beginning, but it’s so funny to see how different the space looks from the initial idea.

I personally love that because it means that instead of going with some preconceived notion of what this place should be, we really allowed each piece to direct the story.

It was long, but man - was it delightful and juicy and so fun!!

The process taught me so much, not just about the world of interior design, but about myself.

About three years ago I hired an agency to help me do a full rebrand. We worked on the vision together, they went off to execute… and when the first version came back, it just wasn’t me. We revised and revised, but it never clicked.

Not their fault. Through the process I realized I’m an impossible client for agencies. It’s important to me to have a deep emotional connection to the finished product and I found that for me, it comes from being deeply involved in the creation itself.

So I scrapped the whole thing. Yes, after paying quite a big sum 💸. Painful lesson, but a needed one.

Now I knew what I didn’t want, but I didn’t yet know how to create what I did want. So I stayed stuck. Until years later, one morning in Thailand (Thailand can be magical like that), something shifted.

The vision for how things should feel finally fully landed in my system. I started pulling references, visuals, creating mood boards - the whole thing. Hours and hours passed by in this creative vortex, and when I finally came out, I knew I had something that felt like me.

Once I had the visual language I loved, we got to work with my creative team (support that i didn’t have 3 years ago) and I loved every second of our creative collaboration.

Now, many months later, the new KD identity and website is (almost) here. And I couldn’t be more excited! 🫶🏼

This isn’t just a new look - it is the start of a new chapter. One I finally feel aligned with.

And I hope it resonates with you too.

My Prague apartment is finally starting to come together (it only took more than a year 🙃) and I couldn’t be happier!

I started the project with a certain idea in mind but as it progressed, it took on a different shape. I’ve loved the process of seeing my design aesthetic emerge in this way.

I couldn’t have done it without the support from my incredible interior designer who totally understood my need for this process to be slow and intentional.

Can’t wait to share the finished space!
