Based on Cambridge studies shared between 2017 and 2023, a Living Laboratory was born in the Municipality of Loulé (Poço Geraldo)—a Biodynamic Garden.
♻️This scientific foundation supports the Sustainable Education Program Algarve 2025.
Initially studied by a private entity, it is now shared with the entire community, promoting a collective union through knowledge.
♻️The statement that Quarteira's four centennial cork oaks were left to rot has full scientific backing.
♻️ These living, ancestral ecosystems represent the deep interconnection between nature and our own survival. ♻️
♻️Although they were left to die in silence, on May 13, 2026, they gained an active voice through the energy and action of those who care.
♻️ If the path of ecological regeneration were easy, it would have already been done.
♻️Here is a collaborative draft so that everyone with an environmental conscience can take a firm stand in defense of the Earth.
♻️ This text can and should be adapted for the Complaints Book (Livro de Reclamações) of any public or private entity:
To the Honorable Mayors, Parish Council Presidents, Directors of Gardening and Landscaping Companies, and other Public and Private Entities of the Algarve,We address you to urgently appeal for the adoption of ecological protection measures in the Algarve, backed by the latest and most alarming global scientific evidence, particularly studies published by the University of Cambridge and Nature journal.
Scientific data shows that summer temperatures in the Iberian Peninsula have already exceeded all natural variability of the last millennium.
With consecutive heatwaves projected to exceed 35°C and 40°C, the Algarve faces unprecedented hydric and thermal stress.
Green space and agricultural management must shift paradigms immediately.
We urge your institutions and companies to lead by example through two fundamental actions:
1. Immediate Suspension of Summer PruningStructural or drastic pruning during extreme heat condemns our trees.
Forestry science demonstrates:Loss of Thermal Shield:
Tree canopies reduce surrounding temperatures by up to 9°C. Removing foliage worsens the "urban heat island" effect.
Wounds and Dehydration: Summer pruning causes exposed wounds that accelerate water loss through evaporation, killing trees via hydric stress.
Sunscald:
Foliage removal exposes sensitive trunks to direct solar radiation, destroying the plant's vascular tissues.
Technical Exception:
Pruning must be strictly reserved for the vegetative rest period (autumn/winter), allowing only minimal summer interventions for road safety.
2. Erradication of Chemical Use & Adoption of Biodynamic Principles.
Algarve ecosystem is fragile. Continued use of synthetic herbicides (like glyphosate) and chemical pesticides destroys soil biodiversity and contaminates our drought-depleted aquifers.
We appeal for a transition to biological and mechanical w**d control methods that respect nature and public health.
Protecting our trees and banning harsh chemicals is the only guarantee for our region's economic, tourism, and social survival against desertification.
We remain available to share the detailed scientific studies mentioned.
Sincerely,[Your Name / Organization or Civic Movement Name][Contacts / Social Media]
🤝 Juntos pela Regeneração Integrada do Algarve.
We are founding a new NGO with a holistic vision linking ecology, local economy, and human well-being.
We are looking for founding members—lawyers, biologists, educators, and conscious entrepreneurs—who want to co-create real, lasting impact.
Our commitment is to regenerate biodiversity through native flora, lower the environmental footprint, and strengthen zero-kilometer circular economies.
Our Nature School Project is ready to move forward.
