"Digital postural assessment with Apecs could represent a quick method for preventing screening in the general population. Therefore, clinicians should consider this app’s worth as an auxiliary posture evaluation tool"

This was one of the conclusions in a newly published research article focusing on postural assessments with APECS and its reproducibility. The research study involved a sample of 100 people and highlighted the ease of use, affordability, and reproducibility of APECS for postural evaluation.

Active release technique (ART) is an effective method to treat the upper cross syndrome - a muscle imbalance condition where muscles occasionally get stiff and shortened from their original length. Active isolated stretching (AIS) also showed effectiveness, but with less significant effects.

This was a conclusion of researchers who conducted a single blinded randomized clinical trial involving 37 subjects. Several tools, including APECS, were used for for assessments.

The team of researchers was based in several research and medical institutions in Lahore, Pakistan: Fizza Ali Syed (Baloch Hospital), Idrees Ahmed Zahoor and Arif Ali Rana (Central Park Medical College_Official), Saira Shabbir and Mubshra Ibrahim (Riphah International University - Lahore Campus), Erum Ghaffar (Hajvery University).

The overwhelming majority of construction workers are under medium to high risk of developing musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs). Awkward postures, prolonged durations
and other factors (e.g., poor coupling, excessive load, repeated actions under poor supervision) contribute to the risk levels.

This is the conclusion of Anagha. R and Annie Sonia Xavier from the Toc H Institute of Science and Technology (India), who assessed the level of ergonomics in various tasks in the construction industry. Having examined the situation, researchers offer several suggestions on how to mitigate these risks.

APECS app in research! 👨‍⚕️⚕️👧

Researchers from the Alma Mater Studiorum - Università di Bologna (Italy) analyzed how adolescents with scoliosis perceive their body image. They conclude that "...mild magnitude of the spinal curve negatively affects self-perceived body image".

APECS app in research! 👩‍🌾👨‍⚕️⚕️

A new research article analyses ergonomics of working conditions and postural work-related alterations. The researchers indicate that the prolonged vibration exposure and constantly awkward posture can predispose employees to musculoskeletal pathologies.

The research was conducted by a team from the Università di Catania (Italy), Università degli Studi di Palermo (Italy), and CREA - Ricerca (Italy).

The article was authored by Federico Roggio, Ermanno Vitale, Veronica Filetti, Venerando Rapisarda, Giuseppe Musumeci, and Elio Romano. It was published this August in Safety and Health at Work, accessible in open access at: https://doi.org/10.1016/j.shaw.2022.07.003

APECS app for researchers! 🕵️👩⚕️

A new research article describes the role of posture class in the symmetrical activity of chewing muscles.

The research was conducted by a team of physiotherapists and doctors of dental surgery from the Universidad de Valparaíso - Chile. They used measures of forward head posture, shoulder discrepancy, and surface electromyography and showed a positive relationship between digastric muscle symmetry and skeletal class during swallowing.

📄 The article was authored by Sebastián Espinoza, PT, Gabriela Peirano, DDS, Nancy Tapia, DDS, Patricia Venega, DDS & Norman Marfull, PT, MPT. It was published this August in CRANIO: The Journal of Craniomandibular & Sleep Practice, available at: https://doi.org/10.1080/08869634.2021.1960741

Our APECS app is used for postural evaluations at the Don Tum Hospital in Thailand! 🏥👩‍⚕️

Below you can find a photo from last week, during their 2-day physical assessment event for hospital staff. Hospital employees can develop musculoskeletal and orthopedic issues, leading to health problems and discomfort at home and at work.

To encourage early detection and to raise awareness, Don Tum Hospital organized a 2-day physical examination event for hospital staff. Their Physical Therapy Department performed full examinations - from head to toes.

To evaluate postural alignment, the team used "Quick Analysis" test for rapid general analysis, with a calibrated phone on a tripod.

We're sending our best wishes to Don Tum hospital staff during these challenging times. Stay healthy!
