YAK AND MERINO WOOL SHAWL FROM HIMACHAL PRADESH
Wearing a garment made of yak wool is something a little “extra”. The yak is a long-haired ox native to Himalayan high plateaus over 2500 metres. Its wool has been used for thousands of years by nomads in the area and is today considered rather exclusive as it is sometimes difficult to get hold of.

The wool is gathered from yaks around the Kullu region where our supplier operates. To thin the dense and warm wool, we mix it with soft merino wool also sourced from the area. All carding, spinning and weaving are done on traditional wooden looms called KHADDI. The weaving technique is unique and is passed down from generation to generation. The weavers belong to their own little clan.

Dyeing is done with environmentally adapted modern pigments which fix to the fibres and retain their luminosity for a long time.

THE BLUE GOLD - NATURAL INDIGO
Indigo is the one of the oldest plant dyes in existence and can be traced back to the ancient kingdoms of the Middle East.

It is a deep blue dye extracted from the green leaves of a variety of plants.
The earliest direct evidence for the use of indigo dates to around 4000 BC and comes from Huaca Prieta, in contemporary Peru.
Pliny the Elder mentions India as the source of the dye after which it was named.
It was imported from there in small quantities via the Silk Road. For centuries, Indigo was a valuable commodity that was traded across the globe, earning it the name ‘Blue Gold’.

AYURVEDICALLY DYED PASHMINA WOOL SHAWL
An Ayurvedically dyed, thin wool shawl from Kerala.
A light, thin and warm shawl in fine merino wool for yoga, meditation and everyday wear. Hand-woven in Khadi and dyed according to Ayurvedic methods using different herbs, roots and berries. Each shawl has asymmetrical, unique and subtle batik patterns in large, soft rings.

Ayurvedic medicine is a form of Indian medicine that can be traced back to around 5000 BC. Ayurveda means life and knowledge in Sanskrit. Our supplier, Mathew, operates in Kerala where the government invests in hand-weaving and Ayurvedic dyeing methods.
Material: 100% pashmina wool from goats raised at high-altitudes in Himachal Pradesh.

From the shepherds in the mountains of Kullu and Kanga district SILK AND HIMACHALI MERINO WOOL SHAWL – GOLDEN SAND
The wool is purchased directly from the shepherds in the mountains of Kullu and Kanga district. Carding, spinning, and weaving are done in the traditional way on old looms called KHADDI here. The weaving technique is unique and is passed down from generation to generation. The weavers belong to their own small clan.
Mixing the wool with silk makes this shawl light and warm at the same time.
Here, the dyeing is done with environmentally friendly modern pigments to stay in and maintain the brightness for a long time.
A perfect shawl all year round!

Linen Road
Linen (or flax) is a fibre that is grown in colder climates around the globe. Textiles made from the flax plant are better known as linen in the western world. Going back several thousand years, linen is one of the oldest textiles ever used. Linen artifacts that are 36,000 years old have been found in Georgian caves. The material was used in both Mesopotamia and Egypt, and linen is also often mentioned in the Bible. Linen is very strong and absorbent and dries fast. Because of these characteristics, linen is comfortable to wear in hot weather.
