Wisdom Stockholm Wisdom Stockholm addresses challenges in business, education, politics and social life, calling for a new consciousness and collective leadership capacity

The Wisdom Stockholm conference addresses the great challenge of our age: how to stay connected with ourselves and others in times of disruption affecting many aspects of our lives. This two-day event gathers a mix of internationally acclaimed and innovative speakers from sectors like business, education, politics and lifestyle, along with renowned wisdom teachers, discussing and presenting exampl

es of how to tap into a deeper level of humanity, of who we really are and who we want to be as a society. The topics of conversation range from intuition to emerging technologies and neuroscience; including conscious leadership and mastering the art of happiness. We want to explore ways that are beneficial to our well-being, effective in our work, and useful to the world. The event includes talks, interviews, conversations, and the chance to mingle, explore overlaps and potential projects with other participants, including executives, entrepreneurs, coaches, academics and wellness professionals. Through Wisdom Stockholm we strive to bring this conversation to the world in an accessible, innovative, and inclusive way. This year the conference is held at the historic Oscarsteatern October 6 and 7. Wisdom Stockholm is inspired by Wisdom 2.0 and supported by Google.

Maturity and Wisdom should have more voice in our Diplomacy!

It is frightening to see how our politicians in Germany, Europe and worldwide seems to have no understanding for the situation of the other side. On the contrary, they are currently trying to identify a culprit who will free us from looking at ourselves and our own share in the situation. It is incomprehensible to me how the USA and the EU are currently trying to isolate Russia further and further and to drive it into a corner. Exclusion from the United Nations Commission on Human Rights means reducing to absurdity the original idea of the UN to remain in dialogue even in the most difficult situations.

And have the USA forgotten the pictures from Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo? That it was they who lied to the world to justify a war in Iraq. That it was they who attacked Panama in the 1980s without a UN mandate, killed people, ousted the president at the time and sentenced him to many years in prison before a court martial. Did we, did the EU and the rest of the world then demand sanctions against the USA, try to exclude them from SWIFT? No, we have not.

Justifying the current sanctions and further measures with moral, ethical or even democratic political arguments is a resounding slap in the face of all life. Arms supplies and armament lead to destruction and death. So far, however, far away from us, as for example in Iraq, Lebanon, Afghanistan, Syria, Yemen, and thus touching us less. Let's just remember the pictures of the "abandoned partners" in Afghanistan. Did we demand consequences there, decide on sanctions, discuss and demand the exclusion of US artists, companies and their representatives? It is unbearable to see this mendacity of argumentation with which our politicians are currently leading us to the brink of a destructive war.

Where were and are these politicians when we had to realise that China maintains so called re-education camps for Uyghurs on a large scale, where until today a large number of people are not only deprived of their freedom, but have to pay for their religious affiliation with their lives.

Yes, we must take a clear stand against war. However it would be more honest and effective if we would recognised and understood our own part in this war and incorporated it into our diplomatic efforts. Today we understand that one cause of the Second World War, was the Treaty of Versailles, which made normal life in Germany very difficult. Why are we making the same mistake?

Putin saw and sees himself threatened and backed into a corner. And if we look at the geopolitical developments of the last decades, this perception is understandable. However, it does not justify his actions!

Our reaction, our diplomacy should be further and more maturely developed and not act according to the principle of "an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth".

Once again, we look back on an intense year. At the end of 2020, the topic "How do we want to live together?" became so present that we decided to organise a Wisdom Together Symposium that would definitely take place in presence. There was no plan B for us, no virtual alternative. We wanted to bring a free, living energy of togetherness into the world.

Wisdom Together Symposium 2021

In August 2021, people met in the seminar house and organic hotel SeinZ in Bad Kohlgrub to share their forms of life and their ideas for a living togetherness, to learn from each other and
to experience inner, individual and collective experiences. A rich programme with impulse lectures by and with "experienced" initiators and inhabitants of community projects and communities, workshops, dialogue forums, meditations, quiet moments, offers of movement, experience with one's own voice and a lot of togetherness!

Thus Stefan Charisius told us about his experiences of community in Africa, accompanied by his African "harp", the Kora, and the puppet DUNDU, which is moved by five puppeteers and thus moves through the room as if by itself. DUNDU means "you and you" and is embodied by the illuminated puppet with which the "players" set an example for community, communication and collaboration. Christian Kramer, the "host", introduced us to the history of the place and the new orientation of "SeinZ as Wisdom Resort", Matthias Fersterer spoke about his personal experiences from the community "Klein Jasedow" and Andrea Vetter about the "House of Change". In a Wisdom Together Workshop, the space for new experiences and openness was opened with questions like "What does community mean to you? Dialogue Walks enabled people to get to know each other and World Cafes deepened discussions on the keynote speeches. Alfred Strigl shared his experiences with the co-housing community Pomali and Esther Hirsch spoke about the Global Ecovillage Network. The workshops: "Sustainable Decision Making", with Cornelia Strobel, "Theatre and Creativity in Everyday Life" by Clara Tolle and "Body Knowledge and Perception as a Basis for Change" by Monika Ananda Griese completed the programme. A singing bowl concert ended the day with a very personal experience.

Each speaker was also a participant and shared his/her experience in a very personal way. Cornelius Pietzner, for example, talked about his life and his many years of experience in community life at home and abroad. Thomas Latka presented the Japanese philosophy and community "Shumei"
and Markus Spitzer spoke about the community project Auenweide and its special financing approach "asset
pool". Stefan Leitner-Sidl shared his experiences with the Markhof Wien and
Gari Pavkovic spoke about the public project Stadtgemeinschaft Stuttgart. Geseko v.
Lüpke concluded the impulse lectures with the topic: Communities as Impulse Givers.

In the short time we were able to spend together, everyone experienced personally and all together what makes a living community. Thanks to everyone involved and present for this profound and inspiring experience, which has an impact far beyond the time and space of the Wisdom Together Symposium.

Wisdom Together - What is important?

For Wisdom Together, the symposium pointed the way for our future work. It seems increasingly important to us to create times and spaces where honest exchange, learning and the personal and collective development of living people can take place. For this, we believe it is essential to meet in person. Virtual meetings can be flanking and
supportive.

In this sense, we support local initiatives and meetings and would like to encourage everyone to exchange with people, start initiatives to build local communities and share the experiences. It is about taking our lives into our own hands and developing living forms of togetherness that make us independent. In this way, a network of local communities is created that change the world through their concrete actions. Paul H. Ray and Sherry Ruth Anderson refer to such people in their book: "How 50 Million people are changing the world" as "The Cultural Creatives".

At a time when we feel we are falling back into a mechanistic pattern of thinking that separates us, in which there is only black and white, outside and inside, right and wrong. Where cause and effect are only linked in a linear way, where intermediate tones and colours are not heard and seen, and where thinking, feeling and acting that goes beyond this is condemned, we should step out and actively bring more colours and tones into life. We should invite others into a community of independent people who work as personalities in, with and for the community, supported by an understanding of the living connection to all
life.

Wisdom Together feels connected to such a consciousness and would like to invite each of you to participate, to contribute, to share, to be there, in life. To constantly cultivate and develop the contact with our wisdom and to bring it into life together.

Wisdom is

For us lived knowledge, in harmony with living reality. Wisdom is formed in community - without community there is no wisdom. Wisdom is a quality of the heart.

Our vision is

a world of wisdom where people consciously live their own power and aliveness, and where communities are places of freedom, creativity and love for life.

Our mission is

To expand our consciousness and wisdom together, to inspire each other, to learn from and with each other.

To create spaces where we can experience together and open ourselves to our own and collective development.

To connect people and organizations and support them in building communities of wisdom.

In this spirit we wish you peaceful days and a good start into the year 2022. We look forward to bringing aliveness and wisdom into life together with you.

Especially in times when we feel unsecure, irritated and anxious it is important to understand, that our paradigm which is a constellation of concepts and assumptions that structure how we see the world, defines and limits the future that we can imagine. Thus, it becomes obvious that "it is a never ending adaptive journey to changing circumstances, grounded in the evolution of our mindsets, values and human capacities" (Thomas Legrand in his book Politics of being).

History has shown us that there is never just one solution to a problem. Forcing people into an "assumed truth" inevitably leads to a deep division in society. I am currently experiencing this in many countries, but especially in Germany, which depresses me greatly. I hope und do my best that we will find a way to speak openly with each other again, so that we can use our experiences, knowledge and wisdom together for an open, creative and lively society. What role does maturity play in our life?
In extreme times we need to absorb and process more complexity than ever before. We are facing new and major challenges while having to make decisions for our lives, for our families and sometimes for others. In this environment maturity is playing an important role now and in the future. Discussions about self-leadership are often about singular personality traits such as dominance, focus or emotional intelligence. But leadership is a social phenomenon and as such complex. It's about:

ORGANIZATION DESIGN:
What is the right structure and organization for us and for others in times of constant change?
DYNAMICS:
How do we want to work together? What kind of culture do we want to create for our socities?
LIFE:
Why are we doing what we are doing? What is our purpose in our vision collectively and as an individual?
THE ENVIRONMENT:
Is the way we are behaving and the context in which we are active aligned with our values and beliefs?

Life is social interaction. Everything that happens is interpreted and communicated, and it happens because it is interpreted and communicated. Therefore one-dimensional explanations fall too short. Self-Leadership needs to be effective, accommodate dynamics and absorb the dance of all elements.

This requires, at best, something in us which reflects the multi-dimensional complexity we are facing: personal development and maturity.

"Cultivating our Common Humanity amidst Uncertainty"
MLE Dialogue with Tenzin Gyatso the 14th the Dalai Lama
05:30 hrs, September 17, 2020
Mind & Life Europe will hold a webinar Dialogue with the Dalai Lama on the topic of "Cultivating our Common Humanity amidst Uncertainty". Humanity has been facing two global crises that remind us of the fragility of our lives and livelihoods: slow-paced climate change and the sudden COVID-19 pandemic. We find ourselves in a situation of unparalleled global uncertainty that spotlights our interconnectedness and our interdependence with other people, animals and the planet. His Holiness the Dalai Lama (image: Olivier Adam) Led by Amy Cohen Varela (Chairperson, MLE), Matthieu Ricard (Honorary Board Member, MLE) and Andreas Roepstorff (Professor, Interacting Minds Centre, Aarhus University and Board Member, MLE) will explore what insights the Western scientific and Buddhist traditions offer for fostering the sense of common humanity and universal responsibility as a way of living amidst uncertainty, to promote cooperation rather than conflict, and to develop wisdom and compassion.
You can access the live stream via the official website of the Dalai Lama, the page of the Dalai Lama or our MLE page. You can also access the recordings of this event later on via the official website of His Holiness and watch them at your convenience.

Let me please invite you to webinar ´topos`where I will be speaking about the implications of "ba" and wisdom in the "Corona-area" with Konno Noboru, who introduced the concept of ´ba´at our Wisdom Together Conference 2019 and Ikujiro Nonaka Professor Emeritus at Hitotsubashi University.

The effects of Coronavirus spread throughout the world, it became apparent that the world is becoming more dissociated, and alienation in society became apparent, and we realized that a place like Topos was needed again.

We see corona pandemics halting our normal life and widespread pe*******on of digital technology. It reduced the cost of Face to Face dramatically. There are benefits such as being able to meet with new people online and the restoration of a more personal life. However, we tend to become more lonely, dispersed, and lost physical sensations outside the internet. In addition, we see social, generational, and economic gaps.

Our inner world and the "place" that is the basis of human sympathy/empathy might be in danger and must be re-established. What about companies and organizations in these times? It seems that new places or "ba" within the organization are required, then what kind of leadership is required there?
